Obviously high res images are of superior quality. Most photographers I have spoken to offer the hi-res images on DVD as a part of their standard package. I looked into the difference between low and hi-res photos and it seems that as soon as you get past a 5x7 image it begins to pixelate and lose their original quality.
Do any of you have experience with this??
Is there a standard DPI/resolution for hi res and low res images?
Unfortunately, the photographer I have my heart set on says that she doesn't give out the hi-res pictures anymore because she once went to a client's house after the wedding and when she looked at the album the bride had printed the pictures had a green or blue cast to them. She says that because the place where the bride had them printed (possibly a Wal mart or a Walgreens according to her) wasn't equipped to print them, it resulted in the discoloration. She wants to ensure that her reputation for her work is preserved so that it is accurately represented in print form. She now only offers the high-res photos on DVD if you buy her album....This means that unless we order prints through her we won't have access to the best quality images and can't print larger than 5x7 on our own....
The thing is that my Fiancée works for a label printing company. As such he has access to a full Graphics Department and full time Proofer (person who ensures that all colors print perfectly). He also has access to professional grade graphic printers and specialized inks.
We told her this as well and she said she would talk to her boyfriend who runs the business side of things. Unfortunately they decided to include the hi-res images ONLY if we bought an album. She offered the album at a 50% discount if I do the design and send it to her to be printed through the company she uses. HOWEVER, her albums range from $1300 for a small album all the way up to $5000!!!! Even at a 50% discount I DO NOT want to spend that much money on something I feel like I'm already paying for...
Some of it doesn't really make sense to me. For example, even if I bought her album and she gave me the hi-res DVD, wouldn't I then have the potential to re-print them anywhere I chose, regardless of quality, thereby defeating her purpose of not providing them in the first place??
I REALLY want her to photograph our wedding, but I feel like this might be a deal breaker....
