Wedding Reception
To cover or not to cover?! Part II

One of my very first posts on WBC was about this subject and I thought the decision was made lol, but it just did not die!

Summary - I don't like chair covers. Mark does. Last week during our wedding detail meeting with the venue, he brought them up again. He likes the uniformity that it brings to the room. They are not included in our package as we're having a buffet and already got a really good deal. Here's the problem - I don't really see the point of them, but he probably really doesn't see the point of alot of the things I have chosen for the wedding like programs, and an aisle runner, and table names, not to mention handmade musical note table name holders hahahahahaha! Sooo... here is my dilemma..

Mark wants chair covers, I don't. He likes the uniformity and thinks our venue chairs are ugly. I think they're fine and I really really don't think anyone will notice anyway. When did I get so anti-detail? LOLOL I am debating thinking I should meet him in the middle although it is really hard for me to think I may have to spend more than $400 on these. OY!

But I am trying to compromise and these stretch ones are nice. They may not fit our banquet chairs as neatly as they fit these chairs though and that is my only concern... but I really don't like the ones in #2 - sorry if anyone does, I'm not trying to be rude at all, they're just not my style!

So we got a couple quotes and the cheapest was for the stretch ones at $360. Which is cheaper than our venue's quote for the satin ones... but will the stretch ones look ok plain or do they have to have the organza sash too?

And bottom line, do I give in and just get the covers? LOLOLOL Ugh, I just feel like they're so unnecessary, but marriage is about compromise after all lol

The last part on your blog entry is definitely true... it's all about compromise. What I would do, depending on how much time you have left, is research some more places online that you might could get a good deal on chair covers online. Do you know approximately how many that you are going to need?

Tough one! We are not having chair covers either, I agree with you that no one will notice and at the end of the night, $400 is $400. That is money you could put towards the honeymoon! Are there any other  areas of the wedding you could but back if you do go ahead with the covers??

My opinion...I would go with chair covers.  I remember going to a wedding and the chairs were ugly.  The whole decor was so nice but the chairs were blah.  Now maybe I noticed the chairs because Im planning my own wedding lol...but I def noticed them :-) I think it just gives it a more clean look

I also agree. Marriage is about compromise. :)

lol its kinda funny because all he wants is chair covers. But i also see the financial side of it.. 400$?! That could go towards a honeymoon like sherri said. But, i don't think i could tell him no. Since we are paying for our own wedding, i would tell him he better start working his boo-tayyy OFF to pay for those chair covers. :)

I do like the streth chair covers. The only thing i would be concerned about is at the bottom.. where it stretches under the chair, would it come out when someone scoots their chair under or out?

Thanks girls and you're right. I will give in but I do prefer the stretch LOL... I just work in health and safety and the satin seem seem like a total trip hazard to me LOL

I like things clean looking so I do get his point.. besides you are all right, I need to compromise. HA! futuremrswilson, that's what I'm saying. Mind you, he pays most of our bills and that's why I am in charge of wedding bills! So yeah, he gets his chair covers, I'll just get the more tailored cover.

Thank you girls for your honesty and your reminders of the necessity to give a little LOL

@sherri02, I could potentially just nix the programs. I really want the videography for the ceremony and besides that, everything else is already paid for...

@futuremrswilson, not yet which is why I bought a back up dress lol. It's coming from China so may take some time! I will def take pics when I get it though!

I'd get them unless you really really think they don't match your decor.

I think we need to leave our men some space... and if they're willing to take part in the whole planning process, they should have their say. My Fiancé is taking care of the invitations and I find it really important that it's his project. I want him to be happy with his input to this whole event which is about the two of us!

Yeah excellent point and I def made it about him with the menu, DJ, etc. I even totally encouraged him to buy a fancy outfit and that it wasn't only my day. It's just this, cuz I just don't think they're that big a deal to pay for covering them lol.

I have already decided I am giving in though. I just need to pick the vendor and the style - stretch plain or stretch with sash or belt etc.

But thanks for the reminder :)

I don't fancy satin chair covers especially if you are having satin anything else (it looks like a satin explosion in my opinion!!) but I am biased about modern...please DO compromise and I would vote for stretch without any bows or sashes...clean lines work best in my opinion with a large number of guests [chairs].

Yeap, looks like we are all on the same page- Compromising and communication I continue to hear from my elders, are the keys to a successful marriage. ITs not only just Love alone anymore. Anyways, with that being said, let your FH have his way with the seat covers. Lucky for you, they really dont look bad. If you want to add a purple sash to them to add alil color, do that too. I really think the stretch ones are fine. Chair covers add alil elegance to it too. Keep us posted!!!

Hey girl, my opinion is that if he wants them, maybe you should go ahead and do it :) I don't know about Mark, but Bryan doesn't want/request TOO many things with the wedding plans, but the couple things he does, I let him have it LOL. I think the strech ones will look just great! Do you have a discount craft/fabric store around you? Maybe you could look for some organza there? Or only put organza around the chairs that are reserved for family and the head table? :)

What if you cover every other chair?  Ha ha - kidding. :)  That'd be the true compromise. ;)

Not sure what to tell you darlin... but you two will figure out what makes the most sense to you.

Ha! Thanks Banana - I think that may drive military Mark somewhat batty. I will cover them, he hasn't asked for much. I just have to find ones I can look at - that are a bit more modern -  and we both will be happy (well in my case happier lol)

Can I just say I'm a little excited that you're giving in??? hahaha I'm pro chair covers.. I think if you're spending thousands on a wedding, and all the details in centerpieces and decor.. have the chairs somewhat flow.. and usually banquet chairs aren't the prettiest things in the world :(  As soon as I read "mark likes chair covers" my first thought was... b/c he's in the military and likes uniformity... hahah  I know the feeling though of spending money on something that just doesn't seem important to you.  In our new home, I easily spent 4000 on a formal dining table and hutch b/c I love to entertain.  But when it came to having to put blinds in the whole house.. 1700,, I was livid!!! "that's not even the window coverings or curtains or anything pretty! That's just stupid blinds"  I'm still a little bitter...lol

HA HA babygirl, see in the house I totally agree and understand, it's with you every day! I will gladly spend money on proper furniture and blinds! Blinds are one of those debates I am not winning, I want to pay for the quality ones, and Mark installed Walmart ones that let in too much light.... OY! When he moves to Kingston, I am just gonna change em LOLOL

For this, it just seems like one of those things that people will not notice. But my honey will notice, and yes, that should be enough for me to just give in. So I did. :) I get pro chair cover to a degree, but I just am not a fan of the satin ones I guess... well the more loose fitting ones that I like to refer to as trip hazards - again sorry to those who like them! Health and safety makes me think weird lol.

LOL, See I like nice blinds and window treatments. PLUS, they are a huge factor if you go to sell your house and they really do make a difference in temperature and light control. Now with these ones, mornings stink. Tooo sunny! LOL

You're totally right... that's what everyone kept telling me.. think resale value... I love window treatments... I just would have rather spent all that money on them instead of white faux wood..hahah  They do keep out the light though.. we got a sick deal.  We got quoted over 2000 from everyone else... and they weren't even nearly as nice as what we got...  I need to take pics of my casa lol  OMG are you so excited!!!! 2 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got chair covers. Its one of the few things I was so glad I spent the money on. it made a HUGE difference. it took a normal looking room into an elegant scene. Chair covers at a formal reception to me, are a must.

I gave in mrsward. Mark is awesome on the little things I want to do, and he, like you, likes the uniformity it brings to the space so chair covers it is :)
