Hi ladies,
FH and I just realised we have to add about 20 people to our guest list. Our budget is already pretty tight as we're paying for the wedding ourselves so I need some extra savings tips from anyone willing to help. I pose these questions to you:
1) What are you and FH forgoing (if anything) in order to be able to have the wedding you want?
2) Do you have any rather easy tips for stretching funds? Within the wedding budget and/or in daily life as well...
3) Random question- how many of you out there are not currently living with FH?
I'll start with my answers...
1) We are putting off a trip to SE Asia this year. We've re-worked it into our honeymoon.
2) We are both obsessed with Tim Hortons coffee. In order to stay on point we have been buying gift cards from TimHo's for the month and once it runs out we get no more. It doesnt seem like much but we're saving almost $50/month. Which is an extra $600 for the wedding!!!!
3) Yes, we live together. Two years and counting :)
2) Budget and Prioritize, so far its working for me even coming in under budget on a lot of topics (still lots of time before wedding though) We also did away with things we were not using a lot like cable/pvr
3) We live together pretty much only on weekends right now due to our work schedules
I'm actually calling a few places to downsize on bills and seeing what they can do. Also, we pick a movie or two that we want to see a month and see it on cheap night.
Question for you: How much is on the tim hortons card a month?
That is an AWESOME idea!
& we have lived together for 1 yr and 2 months. :) & counting!
2) Tips.....DIY (I should really take my own advice lol), be untraditional and step out of the box...wedding on a sunday with brunch etc... Capitilize on holidays.... like christmas clearance sales and valentines clearances etc.
3) I have lived wth FH for three years
BTW- I LOVE your gift card idea. I think that's great. I am a huge spender at Starbucks, and I've cut down on that a lot.
We do live together. We have lived together for 6 years. We have 2 kids (13 yo from his previous marriage and 7 yo daughter)
2) We stay away from fast food. Since we gave it up for lent we've only eaten it maybe 5/6 times. Oh and I'm a BIG DIY bride!
3) Yup for 2 years (basically our entire relationship minus a couple months!)
2) Cut down eating out, shopping etc. Do more creative date nights - picnics, walks, etc... I wish I had a Timmy's habit, I am addicted to the soy lattes at Starbucks cuz I can't have regular milk or cream on my diet. What I need to do is get up earlier and make my own coffee with my own milk at home!!
3) Sorta lol. I've been back and forth since September between Ottawa and Toronto, and now that I can kinda stay in Ottawa, Mark moves to Kingston next month.. sigh.. we'll find a way to move into and STAY in the same house soon though, I know it :)
