Ask a Question
Dessert Reception
Hey Guys!
Thinking about doing a dessert reception immediately post ceremony to cut costs of the wedding. So my question is; if you have your ceremony at 1'oclock, and a dessert reception immediately to follow it will all be done by around 6. Any ideas of what us as a couple could do? Other than the *obvious* LOL! I was thinking a special photo shoot with just us with our photographer then maybe a intimate supper and night in the hotel! Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks! |

Okay, so they aren't sneakers but I have to be a girl sometimes! I got them from the Shoe Company . They're really pretty, and I like them.
Hoping Ellen Degeneres comes up with wedding sneakers before I get married tho....... I'll return them. :) |

Wedding Flowers
Awesome Blossom
So I met with the florist this morning. Less than a 1/2 hour and I'm done. I went in with pictures, budget, and big smiles. I love getting things done, especially 6 months in advance.
My florist's name is Monica Middlestead from Timeless Floral. She runs her business out of her home and has been doing it for over 25 years. She's very pleasant, and as an added bonus she has an adorable golden retriever named Sam. So my bouquet is white/cream roses with tiny white flowers called Stephanotis. They are SO perfect! Really, they look so perfect you'd think they are fake. I'm not very good with names of flowers. Anyways, she will be attaching the Stephanotis', or "little white flowers" with black pins to give it more color. There will be a black ribbon wrapped around the stems and I'm hoping to find a monogram pendant. I have not looked for that yet however. The bridesmaids will just be carrying white roses with black ribbon. The flower girl will have a small bouquet, and some pedals to throw if she's up to the task. The groomsmen will wear a white rose with snowberries and a black stem (so it's manly!) lol. I have pin on corsages and boutonnières for the grandparents, and parents as well. I should probably have one made for the pastor as well. (she never asked me about that). I'll have 2 floral decorations of decorative branches mixed with snowberries. The cool thing is she makes a silk replica of your bouquet so you can keep it, and tell her if you like it ahead of time. Honestly, I am not a fan of silk flowers. But hey, it's free. :) On budget. High five. |

Express Your Love w/ Cupcakes
Oh was I ever glad to come upon this idea today. It goes perfect with my coffee house idea.
I love cupcakes. MmmMmm Yummy. So my mom offered to contribute to my wedding by having a lady in Bottineau, ND, (mom's home town) make some cupcakes for us. I sent her a picture of what I wanted. So it will be chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing and half the cupcakes will have a big X on them with expresso beans (or choc covered expresso beans) and the other half will have an O. I will alternate them in the cake stand to be X O X O. I'll try and find a cupcake stand with a tier for a small cake on top. (made by my friend Stephanie). I really think it's neat when people you know are able to help you with their talents. I appreciate it so much, and it just makes it so much more special. |

Wedding Photography
Engagement Pictures
On March 15, 2009 we had our engagement pictures taken by our awesome photographer, Jerry Vergel. (http://www.jvphotography.com)
After an awesome hair appointment/ chat/ Starbuck swig - with my long time friend, and hairstylist Kim Paull http://glamonthegoparty.com/default.html, and makeup help from Ali Boutet (Mary Kay) I was done UP. I had also ordered a cute jacket from Hollister a few weeks earlier. I admit, I felt kinda sexy! :) We met up with Jerry at 2:00 in the afternoon, and I could NOT have asked for a better day in March. Minimal wind, bright blue sky, warm sun, and of course my absolutely gorgeous fiance, Angel. He looked HOT-T-T-T. We took pictures at Starbucks (to go with my whole coffee house theme), in front of Zellers (where we met), the railroad tracks in St. Norbert, and some at a small playground. We had a blast, and so did Jerry. Four hundred pictures later, we were done. We should be getting our pictures soon, and I can't WAIT to show people. The picture I have posted on the left is from a very talented photographer, Anne Ruthmann. I sent this picture to my own photographer and he really loved the style of her shots. He helped us recreate a similar picture. I can't wait to see it, once it's done. There are other pictures I've posted as well from Angel Eyes Photography, and some work off our own photographer's webpage. We really personalized our photos by going to places that had significance to us. I highly suggest you do the same. You'd be amazing how good of a picture you get in a plain ol' dirty spring parking lot. The key is a great photographer. They make anything look good. |

Wedding Decoration
Church Decor
I have found there is not a lot of information on how to decorate a church. We don't have pews at Springs, just individual navy blue chairs.
I think lighting is EVERYTHING. I am a big fan of candles, and I would like to have pillars of light, whether it is a real candle or battery operated. Any idea where I can find something like this? I would like a monogrammed aisle runner for sure. They're not incredibly expensive, and I think they add a GREAT touch. |

The Hard Questions
Pre- Marriage Counseling
It was not difficult choosing where to have our ceremony, as we both attend Springs Church, in Winnipeg. We are absolutely thrilled to be part of such an amazing, life giving congregation. This church has played a pivotal role in how our relationship has blossomed, and continues to push us to do more, and be more.
Springs has several Pastors, and we were given the opportunity to choose the Pastor that we thought best fitted the role as OUR pastor on our special day. Each and every Pastor at Springs is incredibly gifted, and so it wasn't the easiest choice. However we feel incredibly blessed and excited to have Pastor Ernie conduct our ceremony. He's funny, he's smart, and he's filled with Godly wisdom. We met with him several months ago, and chatted for hours about our relationship, and ideas about marriage. He gave us a discontinued series named "Called Together- A Couple's Guide to Marriage". This book, is more like a binder. It made a "thud" when he gave it to each of us. It is filled with crucial questions we must discuss thoroughly so that we have a good idea of our histories, hopes, and struggles. Angel and I have done things similar to this before, as we purchased a book called "10 Great Dates", and had already completed the 5 week mandatory Marriage Preparation course through our church. If I can say one thing ladies and gents, it is that you absolutely MUST discuss ideas for your future, seriously. You might THINK he/she has the same ideas about disciplining children, or how to handle an outlaw :) lol, but you may be surprised when he/she reacts differently than what you had anticipated. Whether it's through a church, or any other organization that you trust, don't skimp on the pre-marriage counseling. Nobody is going to think your relationship is rocky because of it. People will be glad you did. Remember the divorce rate. It takes a lot more than just love to get through your marriage. You each have your OWN purpose here on earth. Your partner, whomever you chose, is the one who will walk by your side as you succeed, or fail at your hopes and dreams. From what I've researched, God never said to get married for love. (surprising, I know?!). The purpose for marriage is to serve Him together. Obviously, please LOVE the person whom you chose to marry. However, love at certain points will be a choice, not a feeling. Make a decision to fulfill your purposes and support each other. However, at first you will have to discuss just what that purpose is. C'mon - before you spend the next 8 hours planning how you want your wedding cake, think bigger. :) |
