Blue Wedding Cake Picked out a bakery!!!

Wedding Cake
Picked out a bakery!!!
We finally selected a bakery!!! Yay!!! We went to three different places, the first place was called La Chicanita Bakery in Aurora. They specialize in making the mexican pastries and cakes. We had a HORRIBLE experience there. I mean absolutively freaking horrible!!!! We walked in, and spoke with the attendants about wedding cakes, at which point they proceeded to hand us three huge binders with old pictures (pictures had no prices on them btw). After browsing through the pictures, we saw one we were interested in so we went ahead and spoke with the ladies who directed the manager to us. She went into the back to speak with someone else refarding the price for the cake and came back with a quote for $1,250!!!! On top of that we would need an additional $90 deposit fee since they would be making a special platform to accomodate a cake for that ammount of people (450 guests). And just to top it off, an additional $100 delivery fee. I wanted to take a picture of the cake so i took my cellphone out and just before I took a picture one of the attendants scolded me for it, said no pictures were allowed and that those were the rules. I wanted to show my mom and mother in law the cake without having to make a special trip to show them a darn picture. Needless to say, the scolding made my fiance and i both very uncomfortable so we proceeded to leave, but not before getting a slice of cake to take home and taste. They gave us a slice of the cakes that they have for sale (they sell by the slice as well as whole cakes). Not a fresh out of the oven cake, but a cake they had made prior to that day. We were NOT impressed with the quality or taste of the cake. Never going back there for cake again!!

Second place we went to is called La France Bakery, also located in Aurora. This was actually our first stop (before the Horrible Chicanita experience) but the manager we spoke with was very professional and asked us to schedule a cake tasting for the following morning that way he would be able to prepare fresh cakes for us and let us sample different flavors. The cakes were verry good, but they were not what I was looking for or my particular taste. They were also a little bit higher priced for their cakes with cakes starting at around $500 for a cake for 200 people.

Our last stop was Harners Bakery, where we stopped, asked to speak with someone regarding wedding cakes and spoke with a very nice lady who broke down the pricing for the cakes. Very straightforward with pricing, such as a cake that feeds 50-99 is $100, 100-199 $200 or something like that (those are not the prices, I just cant remember them off the top of my head). We looked at the pictures they had (which look like pictures from the early 90's!), saw one we liked and inquired on the price. They told us the cake that was for up to 400 people would be xx of dollars, and we would need to additional sheet cakes (pre cut and decorated) and those would run us xx of dollars... so our grand total with delivery would be about $600 dollars. Yay!!! Now if only the cake tasted good!!!!

They gave us a slice of their vanilla cake with plain vanilla frosting.lt was frozen so they advised us to let it get to room temperature that way we would be able to really taste it. We took it home, put it in the refridgerator for a few hours then on the counter, it went to room temperature, we froze it again because we decided we wanted my future mother in law to taste it, then tempation got to me so I put it in the fridge again to eat, then back in freezer. I went to bed without tasting it, woke up the next morning and put it in the back seat of my truck. We ran an errand, then tasted the cake after we were done and OMG after all the hell I put that cake through, I'd be damned if that has not been the most delicious cake i have ever tasted! I normally wont eat cake without buttercream frosting, but this cake did not need frosting!!! DELICIOUS!!!!

Ou Engagement!!!!
Sam planned a special trip for us after my surgery. The trip was scheduled for the last weekend in January right before I was to return to work. He didnt tell me anything and He didn't give me any details besides the most crucial point: what the weather would be like, a couple of hours before we left. All I was told was that it would be as "cold" as it was here.

I was so excited and nervous to be leaving on a trip to an unknown destination.

As we started driving i started updating on Facebook. Friends and family were helping me guess along the way as to where we were going. It was so exciting and different, but most of all, it was FUN!!

We finally made it to our destination, and I was amazed! We were at Niagara Falls, New York! I had never been to New York, much less to the Falls. It was so exciting.

We pulled up to a hotel on the New York side and checked in. Our hotel was beautiful.

We quickly got ready for dinner. Sam had made reservations for us at a Brazilian Steakhouse named Brasa. We took a taxi and crossed the border into Canada to the Hilton Hotel. We went to the Casino while waiting for the dinner reservations.

We had an amazing and delicious dinner, after which we walked along the sidewalk enjoying the lights and the falls. We walked to a giant all seasons Ferris wheel and jumped on. I was filming the ride to the top of the wheel. RIght as we were approaching the top of the wheel, Sam proposed to me. The view of the illuminated Falls, the New York lights in the background, and the beautiful ring left me speechless. I simply nodded yes as he slipped the ring on my finger!
