Wedding Rings And Jewelry
PLEASE HELP!!!

Tonight I looked down at my beautiful engagement ring and noticed that one of the side diamonds is missing. This is the 2nd time this has happened since I got engaged 4 months ago. About 2 months ago one of my side diamonds fell out. We took it into the jewelers and they replaced the small diamond. I noticed that the quality of the replacement stone was not as nice as the originals so after a week or so we took it to the jeweler again. Around the same time I noticed that the band was really starting to yellow (the diamonds don't go all the way around). We were thinking of asking for our money back but the shop manager did such a good job at pacifying us that we just agreed to have the diamond replaced again and the band re-plated. They also told me that they checked and tightened all the settings for the other diamonds so this problem wouldn't happen again.

Now here we are 2 months later and it is the exact same problem. A different diamond has fallen out and the band is a gross yellow again. IT HAS ONLY BEEN 4 MONTHS! I don't wear my e-ring to work, I don't wear it to do chores, I don't wear it to sleep. I really only wear it when FH and I go out for dinner or to run errands.

Am I in the right to ask for a complete refund? This is not an issue I want to have to keep revisiting every 2 months. Anyone have any similar story to this that they would like to share or advice to help us get our refund? I literally feel so sick when I think about the amount of money FH paid for this ring, it was NOT cheap. Thanks so much for the vent ladies. I'm just in shock.

I should add that the ring was bought from a reputable jewelry store with multiple locations, not just some little place.

***UPDATE***
FH and I went to the jewellers today to discuss what could be done. We went in calmly and cooly and explained everything. The manager offered to fix the ring. Which we refused. He then offered a brand new ring, in the exact same style. Though it was tempting I was worried that the same thing would start happening with a different ring. As soon as we mentioned "refund" the manager got super defensive and almost started blaming it on me. At this point I got so upset that I had to leave the store. FH stayed and kept calm (thank god!). He got the manager to call the owner of the store to explain the situation and even the owner refused to give us a refund (ridiculous!). There is nothing wrong with the centre diamond so we came to an agreement that we would keep the centre stone and get store credit for the balance of the cost of the band. Before we went into the store we decided that a full refund was our goal, but we would accept store credit as the next best thing. We plan on going to a different location to try to find a new band. In the meantime I am ringless. We also plan on filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I had one of the side diamonds fall out on mine after we had it sized...my jewelry replaced it and reinforced the other ones to set my mind at ease.
But if this is the second time it is happening to you i would want my money back...i wear mine 24/7 u should not have to take it off like that all the time.

You are 100% within your right to get a full refund! I know I would especially if he paid a lot for the ring...does that jewelry store have any satisfaction gaurantees? I would look in to the contract/receipt your FH signed...to see what their policy states....talk to some one higher up in the store?

Sorry you're going through such a hard time but don't give up!  ^_^

thanks for the comments ladies. they do make me feel better. we checked the receipts and all the documents they gave us and there is no "satisfaction guarantee" (surprise surprise) and the bottom of the receipt says NO REFUNDS in capital letters. i have a feeling this is not going to be a pleasant fight.

If there will be no refund, I would maybe find another jeweler that can correct the issues for you with a guarantee on their work. Fight the fight where you got it but if it doesn't work find a new place to get it fixed.

If it was from a store, it should have some sort of replacement or refund policy. If it's been doing that much in such a short period of time, imagine the next 60 years....

You are completely in the right to want a refund.  I wear my ring everywhere and to do everything.  I wash dishes, wash my hands, go to sleep sometimes with it on, so yours definitely should not be falling apart.  No worries, your request for a quality ring from your jeweler is completely justified.   I would go in calmly explaining the problem, and if they will not budge threaten to call their corporate office.  Unfortunately, I have a lot of retail experience, and if you cause enough fuss they will have to do something to make you happy. Especially at a well known jeweler.  You deserve an e-ring that lasts forever without giving you trouble every few months.  Hope that helps!  Good luck!! :)

This happened to me once..I didn't let it happen again.  I wore my 1st engagement ring for one whole day.  I woke up from a much needed nap and noticed one of the side stones were gone. I couldn't freakin believe it. We were both upset.  He called the jeweler, explained what happened and we took the ring back that day. They offered to fix it but we told them to keep it instead. We got the money back.

I live in my rings..the only time I take them off is when I'm sleeping, in shower, cooking and or cleaning.  I've never had a stone fall out except with my 1st engagement ring.  Knock on wood...this one seems pretty darn good.

oh i'm so sorry....the next jeweler you pick, make sure  they have a great policy, customer service, and maybe a larger store?  look at the reputation, how long they have been doing business, referrals from friends who really know, and check with bbb too...... i do wish you the best.

so you have the centre diamond and the wedding bands? I would recommend that you go to another jewelry company and when you get it re-made don't even get the coating on the white gold. Thats what my jeweler said. He said if you dont put it on in the first place you will never have the "yellowing ring look"

As for the credit, its too bad that you couldnt just have the diamonds removed and take them somewhere else because its sounds like it was just poor craftsmanship, not the diamonds itself.

You said that this place has numerous locations? Could you contact the head office or something like that? Even if they are all run independantly they still have to answer to a BIGGER boss!

i know it seems unfair, but actually i would say you're pretty lucky that they even gave you store credit...the same thing happened to my ring (only once but two diamonds), and they said it was because of the setting prongs wearing down and they also blamed it on me also...  hope you find a better setting!!  good luck!

Oh my gosh!  I'm so sorry!  What store did he buy it from?  It may help some others out there from experiencing the same thing if you let us know.  That makes me so mad...they should give money back for faulty craftsmenship!

thanks again ladies. this has been the worst week dealing with this. the place where we bought the ring was European Jewellery. they have 5 locations across the GTA, all in upscale malls or shopping centres. we took the store credit they offered and checked each different location for a new ring. we finally found one and are just waiting for them to put our original centre diamond into the new setting. i'm keeping my fingers crossed that we won't have to deal with anything like this again.
