Tonight I looked down at my beautiful engagement ring and noticed that one of the side diamonds is missing. This is the 2nd time this has happened since I got engaged 4 months ago. About 2 months ago one of my side diamonds fell out. We took it into the jewelers and they replaced the small diamond. I noticed that the quality of the replacement stone was not as nice as the originals so after a week or so we took it to the jeweler again. Around the same time I noticed that the band was really starting to yellow (the diamonds don't go all the way around). We were thinking of asking for our money back but the shop manager did such a good job at pacifying us that we just agreed to have the diamond replaced again and the band re-plated. They also told me that they checked and tightened all the settings for the other diamonds so this problem wouldn't happen again.
Now here we are 2 months later and it is the exact same problem. A different diamond has fallen out and the band is a gross yellow again. IT HAS ONLY BEEN 4 MONTHS! I don't wear my e-ring to work, I don't wear it to do chores, I don't wear it to sleep. I really only wear it when FH and I go out for dinner or to run errands.
Am I in the right to ask for a complete refund? This is not an issue I want to have to keep revisiting every 2 months. Anyone have any similar story to this that they would like to share or advice to help us get our refund? I literally feel so sick when I think about the amount of money FH paid for this ring, it was NOT cheap. Thanks so much for the vent ladies. I'm just in shock.
I should add that the ring was bought from a reputable jewelry store with multiple locations, not just some little place.
***UPDATE***
FH and I went to the jewellers today to discuss what could be done. We went in calmly and cooly and explained everything. The manager offered to fix the ring. Which we refused. He then offered a brand new ring, in the exact same style. Though it was tempting I was worried that the same thing would start happening with a different ring. As soon as we mentioned "refund" the manager got super defensive and almost started blaming it on me. At this point I got so upset that I had to leave the store. FH stayed and kept calm (thank god!). He got the manager to call the owner of the store to explain the situation and even the owner refused to give us a refund (ridiculous!). There is nothing wrong with the centre diamond so we came to an agreement that we would keep the centre stone and get store credit for the balance of the cost of the band. Before we went into the store we decided that a full refund was our goal, but we would accept store credit as the next best thing. We plan on going to a different location to try to find a new band. In the meantime I am ringless. We also plan on filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
But if this is the second time it is happening to you i would want my money back...i wear mine 24/7 u should not have to take it off like that all the time.
Sorry you're going through such a hard time but don't give up! ^_^
I live in my rings..the only time I take them off is when I'm sleeping, in shower, cooking and or cleaning. I've never had a stone fall out except with my 1st engagement ring. Knock on wood...this one seems pretty darn good.
As for the credit, its too bad that you couldnt just have the diamonds removed and take them somewhere else because its sounds like it was just poor craftsmanship, not the diamonds itself.
You said that this place has numerous locations? Could you contact the head office or something like that? Even if they are all run independantly they still have to answer to a BIGGER boss!
