Ask a Question
One of my girls bailed yesterday. HELP!! What do I do for dresses???

So one of my girls can't get off of work for my wedding this weekend. Just found out. She will not be able to make the wedding. Boo.

SO, I asked my little brother's GF to replace the bailer and so now I have two separate girls with two separate dresses.

All of my gals purchased their dresses (read: not cheap) and they are each of these dresses are adorable dresses but do not go together at as a whole. I do not feel as though I am in a position to ask any one of them to switch anything so that it matches better.

At this point in time, I do not even want a photographer near this mess that I have created. I do not want to have record of this crappy mess of a rainbow. I am not kidding. I am embarrassed by this whole snafu and craphole.

Anyone have ANY ideas? The gal with the white dress is planning on wearing a marigold colored sweater with marigold colored shoes, so she's much more yellow than this picture shows.

HELP. Seriously. I am pretty unhappy about this mess I'm in right now.

Wow, are those really the dresses of your bridesmaids? Hon, I don't know what to say...sorry. Asking why you let them pick their own dresses without some sort of guide lines on color and fabric (which is what I did) is a mute point right now huh? This is a hard one because if you don't want them to get new dresses and you can't purchase  them new ones hmm....
Beckys dress is actually nice...the other one as far as style is nice but the color....
I'm so sorry...I have no clue other than the two options I gave, new dresses at their expense or yours.
But the bright side,  you are still going to be the focus, and you will be beautiful!

Okay, so what I think I understand is that dress #1 and dress #3 will match.....once the marigold sweater (cardigan?) goes on. So then the dress #2 is kind of out of sinq? What if all of the girls wear cardigans that will each match with eachother?

White dress wears marigold sweater
yellow/marigold dress wears dusty rose sweater
patterned dress wears white sweater
Actually could be really really cute - one commonality to unite them.

Yeah.... it's a mess.

Scotch: That's exactly what dude said!! I like your idea. I think that I might just go with it since it's all I think that I can do... do you really think that this won't look lame?

and I thought I did a good thing by letting my girls to pick yellow dresses that they would like (and the pictures I selected and let them know I like would all kind of go together). I just let them have a little more free reign so that they wouldn't hate their dresses like most BMs end up doing.

I actually like them. They aren't the usual boring stiff dresses that make the birdesmaids look like little clones :P

I had a cousin who had her girls do this, and like you htey came back so different that she freaked out. She spent the full two days before her wedding in tears worried that it would ruin all her photos, and it ended up looking adorable!

You seem to have an ecclectic, cosy sense of style, (I hope that's a compliment, lol), and these dresses show that!

I do like the idea of each girl wearing a muted cardigan though.

Can't I just buy them those really long sweaters? That cover the dress completely? ;)

I am kidding, but just wish I really could sweep this entire cluster under someone else's rug. FRICK.

Give them all ridonkulous feather boas, super-sized sunglasses, and bad-ass tiaras!  No??  At least the attention would be focused on that stuff, and no one would pay any notice to their dresses!

(I'm kidding, obviously - just figured you could use a laugh.  Picture it!  It's like those retro cards with little girls playing dress-up!)

I'm in with Minx, and like her suggestion with the coordinating cardigans.  You could even go so far as adding coordinating belts to go with the cardigan (like in her picture), as long as Sara's sash is removable.   (Or she could tie her cardigan with her dress sash?)  This WILL work...Sara and Becky's dresses are similar enough, and Janet's adds a splash of color.

And, whoever this Sara is, um, dang.  Girl has rockin taste!  That dress is to die for!

I'm so sorry one of your girls can't make it!  :(  Poop.

Don't worry sweetie, your wedding will be beautiful even if your girls are in different styles. Actually, it looks good, you can ask them to wear cardigans as minx suggested or get the same color (yellow is your main color) shawls/ wraps and same shoes, if possible.
I let my girls decide about their shoes although I did mention to get gold color in their own style but everyone got different- gold, black and blue- I'm like whatever you bought, I don't care. Focus on your big day, it will look great.

I cannot even describe how much you guys are helping me deal with this. It's odd how something so miniscule seems so ginormous when you're this close to the day.... guuurrr..

Here's my idea...take it or leave it... you and your mom sew right? Why don't you go to the fabric store and buy fabric in your color and make strapless dresses like dress one? It would be fast and easy.  Or just make the new BM's dress with fabric that matches the expensive dress and dress it up with accessories?? You could have them wear a cardigan overtop, or embellish with something else?
Or you could make both of them and if your one BM paid alot of money for her dress, well too bad I guess. She is your friend and will understand.
I think you're handling this very well because I would be having a melt down. I'm a little OCD when it comes to matching! Good luck!
