Wedding Video
Professional or Not?

Ladies, I need help.

Well, I've been searching for photographers and videographers which seems like forever...

My question is: Do I really need a videographer? I mean, If I do hire one, it'll only be for about 3 hours just to record the ceremony, 1st dance and father/daughter dance. I really think photography is more important and I want full day coverage.

So, is it really worth all that money? 'Cause they aren't cheap! Lol.

Should I just purchase a video camera and just have someone record?

I have read on some of the WBC ladies that are already married and they say to do it. Because the day goes by so fast and you will have it on tape. Now if you do do it (I am) I think that u should go professional, beacause you get what you pay for, and I know that you do want a headache watching the one that your friend will do...lol

I would say hire a videographer.  We are getting one and although I know it's rather expensive, everyone I know who has gotten married has recommended having one (and everyone I know that didn't have one regrets not having one).  Photos are beautiful and a must have (for me), but they can't always capture what a video camera can.  It's like reliving your wedding day over and over and they might capture what you miss :)

I agree with the others I think they are just as important as photography.  Photos are amazing, but they can't capture the emotion of the day...they can't replay your best mans toast to you, they can't show you and your dad walking down the aisle or dancing together after he is gone, mine even does interviews with your immediate family, which is something a photo can't do.  I also recommend a professional...family friends doing it are great, but they lose interest, they miss things, it is wobbly.  I have never heard of anyone who got a video and regretted.

Based on what previous brides are saying about the investment i would say, if you have the some wiggle room in the budget, DO IT. I really am considering finding a way to have one myself. And based of the highlight reels i've seen from previous brides it seems WELL worth it. I don't know any of the people in the videos and i'm crying from emotion! They are just so beautiful and seem so worth it! :)

I totally know how you feel. Because my FH feels the same way. I personally am all for hiring the professional videographer. Yes, it's added cost, but once in a while I think that I would want to hear my vows, see our first dance from another vantage point, plus I want to ask the video guy to do interviews with guests during cocktail hour. Plus, you're right you don't have to get it for entire evening, just ceremony and part of the reception. I found many videographers that range from 750 to 1200 for basic (read 5hrs) package with full 1hr dvd.

I personally can't wait to see my video cause the day goes so fast and I already forgot so much or even missed so much of the wedding around me. I personally feel it's worth the investment if you have the funds. At the end of it all the only thing left is a dirty dress, photos (and video). ;) I recommend yes!

Andy Netter contracted to film my wedding video 22nd of July 2011 and he did turn up. However, after disappearing many times and rearranging the completion date of the cd each time, now he has completely disappeared and I never received my cd till this day, i.e. 7 months later. Although the deal was to get the cd 2 weeks after the wedding. Both his mobile and landline are not in use and he never replied to any of my emails and letter that I have sent to his home address.
Therefore, I do not recommend his services to any one, as there are no words to describe the stress he put me through and the pain he has caused us till this day!
