Ask a Question
How long before our date do we send out the invites?
Our date is set for August 29th, 2009.. Almost everyone invited to the wedding is coming from out of town. Because of this my fiance wants to send out our invitations by this January, I'm thinking this is a little too early. His reasoning is that people plan their holiday time off with their employer at the beginning of the year - I want them sent out a little later so people don't forget to RSVP. What should we do??? I need some advice.

Ask a Question
Fake flowers vs. The real thing??
Hey Yall,
I was wondering what your thoughts are on fake flowers vs real flowers. I'm not really partial to real or fake flowers... I just want a bouquet that is going to stand up to the trials of "the day"... at the same point is having a silk flower bouquet cheesy? We aren't having any other flowers in our decorations besides the bridal party (bridesmaids bouquets, boutonnieres) our table decorations are going to be a mix of lanterns and peacock feathers. So with that said, should I spring for the more delicate real thing or go with the silks??? |

Ask a Question
Can you over do a theme???? I have the bird flu!
So now that I have my color - brown (ie bridesmaid dresses) and my accent colors as green, gold, aqua, blue, and purple bridesmaid accessories - the colors found in the eye of a peacock feather - I am drawn to absolutly any thing peacock. It's even gone to the extent that Nick has looked into renting a flock for the big day. I also have 200 feathers on order from the internet for flowers, decorations, and invitation... as Nick has pointed out are we going overboard?? Where does a girl draw the line? I would like to keep with the theme just so my ideas and colors are tied together with the feathers, but on the same end I don't want to go overboard - I want elegant not cheese. What has everyone else done with their theme weddings, did they go all out or did they keep it a little conservative?

Home sweet home
Because of all my shopping I single handedly helped to restore Egypts economy
Well I'm back from Egypt, back home, back to work, back to life... I'm just back. Before I start ranting on how much I missed Nick and my Tim Hortons I have to say that Egypt was amazing. I met an amazing group of people on my tour - some who I wish I could see again and others I could have drowned in the Nile. The three weeks that I spent in the country didn't do it justice, all the history and beauty.. someone could use up a life time exploring all it has to offer. Definately not your R&R type of holiday, there were lots of tours, camel rides, donkey rides, balloon rides, boat rides, train rides (I decided the theme of the trip was rides). However, In between playing "Dora the Explorer" and "Lara Croft Tomb Raider" I did still manage to get in a "little" bit of shopping. I bought tons of jewelry, perfumes, art... but the best find of all had to be the 18k gold wedding band I bought for Nick in Dahab and the 4 Egyption cotton scarves I bought for the bridesmaids to wear with their dresses (pictures to follow), so accessories finalized I have established that my main color for the bridesmaids dresses are going to be a dark espresso brown with a different accent color for everyone of them, still keeping my "peacock theme" their colors will follow the color scheme of aqua, purple, blue and rusty red. I will still have green accents (flowers etc) just have to find a way to work everything in.. I guess eventually everything will come together. For now I have to make up for the 3 weeks I was gone away from Nick - felt like a life time - absence truly does make the heart grow fonder, because I haven't appreciated or loved him more than I do now.

Be Right back - I'm off to Egypt!!!!
K, I can no longer contain my excitment!!!!!
So It's been a super crazy year and it just seems to be getting better and better... I only met Nick in early April 2008... we started talking a couple days before I left for New York for a week of R&R (retail & relaxation). Since I've returned we've been inseparable.. he truly is my best friend - it's absolutly true "when you know.. you just know!" The past year and a half I have I have really been exploring who I am and what it is that I love... turns out that I love travel and culture. In that time I have ventured to Las Vegas, backpacked the Grande Canyon, volunteered in Guatemala, hiked the Rockies, painted the town red in New York.. and now I'm off to Egypt!!! I'm the kinda girl who always needs something on the go... something on the horizon to look forward to - maybe thats why Nick proposed so soon - He knew that a wedding would keep me home longer. lol. because I booked the trip before Nick and I were anything serious I'm going to be flying solo. It's gonna be hard to leave him and all the plans we've been trying to make. Therefore, I am making it a mini mission that while I'm in Egypt I am to find a couple of wedding items (shalls for the bridesmaids, bridesmaid gifts, unique decor items) things to provide inspiration for our big day. This is going to be no small task. Inbetween playing Dora the Explorer, Lara Croft tomb raider, floating down the Nile and riding camels... I still plan to plan our wedding from 12 000 km away. Poor Nick - he's lucky that this is a one time thing and probably more lucky that he's staying behind (I would have made him carry all of my puchases - now I just have to hire a donkey while I'm there to do all that dirty work.lol) Anyways, I'm super excited for my trip... and more excited to return and post all my finds!!! Should be an interesting one. See you around the 21st of October... Happy early Thanksgiving to all the Canucks! |

Ceremony Decor
Aisle decorations
Since I'm not a princess... poofy, puffy, flowery girly girl.. I'm not too worked up over having a ton of flowers everywhere. Flowers get to be expensive and they die in days. So yesterday while I was grocery shopping at Super Store I came accross some really cute really cheep ($3.49-$5.49) huricane lanters. Since we are having our ceremony outside / under a big white tent on my parents acreage.. My thoughts and ideas are to have the lanterns on sheppards hooks along the isle at the end of each row of chairs with burning candles in them. There are different sizes of lanterns so I also thought that I would buy a couple bigger ones as well to put at the end of the isle (where we're gonna be married) for ambience.
After the ceremony I'm thinking we'll move the lanterns to the hall so we can use them as decoration around there. |

Wedding Reception
A little fixer upper - but it's our hall
So we found a hall in the middle of the country - it's all of 5 minutes from where the ceremony is going to be. It's cute (holds 120 people), it's super flexable in everything from alcohol, catering, set-up, take-down... we're shooting for low stress... and this place seems like all of the above. And the absolute best part is that there are really no limitations on decorating.
I really want to put alot of emphasis on lighting - I want our hall to sparkle like a christmas tree. I've found a couple of ideas online that is fueling my vision. |

Wedding Invitation
We're making a list and Checking it twice... Sorry if you didn't make the cut.
So after Nick and I each made a list... rewrote the list... edited the list... revised the list... further amended the list... converted the list to excel spreadsheet format and then amalgamated the list for eachother's futher constructive criticism we have reached a number. Our magic number is 176 which in my opinion is the new "666"... for the simple reason that I went though hell trying to keep it short and sweet without stepping on toes. See our delema is that the hall Nick and I have both agreed on holds 120 people... I was never great at math.
My aunt who has hosted many a wedding in her day has assured us that there is a perfect math to the "list". She says that out of all invites you will recieve an 80% yes RSVP and out of the 80% confirmed you will only get 90% actually present. As long as this formula is correct it will bring our number down to a beautiful 116 +/- a little room for unexpected events and error. These events are not limited to unforseen death / pregnancy / delivery / the flu / the bird flu / tornados / tsunamis or the fact that the guest has came accross a map and found out where Grande Praire (the local of our wedding) actually is. P.S. for all the alcoholics if you make the drive to Grande Prairie there is a possibility of an open bar. ; ) |

Future Bridezilla on the loose!!!
So can't believe that I'm one of "those" girls who now occupies my time clipping from beautiful bride... surfing the web for the latest trend in wedding cakes and counting the days till I say goodbye to single Trina and hello to married life.
My beau and I got engaged on Sept 1st of this year, how exciting a wedding on the horizon... truth be told my excitement for this fall was to be a solo trip to Egypt on Oct 4th... however, instead of oogling picts of the pyramids my head is all a dither about dresses and decorations. I've seemed to have forgotten that Egypt is even on planet earth because I am so far off it at the moment. I had promised Nick that even before I opened the first page of a bridal magazine, devoted my tv tube time to "rich bride poor bride" or thought of a date I would return from my travels safely. .... ironically it's day 20 of my new "engaged" life and I already have a date, place, bridesmaids, and most importantly.... my dress. lol.. even funnier.. I've been filling my brain so full with wedding ideas I seemed to have deleted from my memory that "safe" place where my passport is located. ... The blonde is real ; ) I never in a million years thought that I would be so enthused in planning something like this... I try to maintain a minimal amount of "girly girl-ness".. no pink.. no princess.. However, I just can't wait to create a perfect day that will kick off the rest of our lives. |
