Cake Dummies

Ok Ladies, just looking at this cake you can quickly tell that it would cost upwards of $1,000 to make. With this not being an option for my wedding budget, I am seriously considering a Fake Cake that looks like everything I would want. I have done some research and apparently you can have these cakes made with a secret compartment that houses a couple of slices for you and the hubby to eat during the cake cutting. Then the cake is wheeled away and slices of a much lesser expensive sheet cake are brought out and served to the guest. Not a bad option when you consider that a sheet cake probably tastes much fresher than a wedding cake and your guests don't have to wait for someone to slice them a piece of cake and if there is any waste, you don't feel so bad because you didn't pay alot for the sheet cake.

My question is: Does anyone know where I can find out about the secret compartment that I mentioned. I haven't been able to find a tutorial about it, just sites that mention the option. Thanks Ladies.

you have way more options ....than the industie tells you...
order cake ...just dont drop the W.... word and it will be cheaper...or oder many small cakes, have fam members bake and bring,...or go to a small unknown baker....the cake is cheap ....the decor is expensive...or have a small wedding cake and other side cakes....i hope that helps...

dont know where u can get it but i agree austrianbride. dont mention the "w' word and cakes are cheaper. BTW the cake in your pic is gorgeous

we are having a fake cake that my bff will be making for us and will actually have one real tier for us to cut into and take home  our guests will be handed out cupcakes in clear boxes with a ribbon which they can take home or eat there I don't like how peoplel leave cake behind all the time cause they too stuffed I have seen this many times and like you said wedding cake is way too expensive.Like you I want a beautiful cake for my pics and this is the best option  not sure about a secret compartment how much is that gonna cost might as well  have one real tier you can cut and take home with you, just a thought.

I thought that one of the tiers is actually real, usually the top one for you to cut plus it's the smallest of the tiers so it's cheap to do and the rest are fake but maybe not.

If i were u if u do want a cake like that have someone in ur family make it if they can, or if u reallly want a cake that looks like this just buy the cake already made and have someone in ur family put it together to look like this cake either way i wish u good luck

There is a website I found that provides dummy cakes for you to rent for your wedding, and they have a special hidden compartment at the back for a pieces of cake. They have lots of pre-designed cakes, or you can customize your own. I havent looked at everything yet, but I have seen a few cake designs that I thought were very pretty...I'm definitely interested.  For a three tier cake, the price is $125 plus shipping. Four tier, $150 plus shipping!

YOU CAN ALSO ASK THE BAKERY TO PUT TWO FONDANT COVERED STYROFOAM TIERS IN THE MIDDLE OR AT THE BOTTOM AND CUT INTO THE SECOND TIER FOR PICS (SAVE THE REAL TOP TIER FOR YOUR ANNIVERSARY) AND THEN THEY TAKE IT INTO THE BACK WHERE SHEET CAKE WILL BE CUT AND SERVED. WAY CHEAPER.

Thanks to all you Ladies for the awesome ideas and input. I am definetly understanding things better now and I now have better options especially with the real round cake on top. I called yesterday and left out the W word and they quoted me $15 for a 6inch round so that is going to work for us. I may get two of them one to cut for pics and the other to save for the one year anniversary.
