Lego bride and groom!
My profile picture, as you can see to the right, is a lego bride and groom. Lego used to give these away for free if you wrote them that you were getting married and wanted a pair. Unfortunately, they no longer offer this (which totally sucks!).
Anywho, my fiance loves legos. We actually inherited a china cabinet for our dinning room, and what do we have in it? NOT CHINA! How about 10 or LARGE and ORNATE lego sculptures. I saw a girl on Theknot.com named redshoegirl who used lego people (officially known as "minifigs") for her photographer's ring pictures (you know, the shots the photog takes of "his and hers" rings together, usually in a cool/unique way). Pics attached of what it's going to look like. I bought mine from ebay seller DRYDBONI, they cost me $15. I got to pick the hair color/faces/dress/flower color. Very cool! Highly recommended, especially if you have a lego freak living in your house, too. |

The bride picture blowing a kiss to the groom picture?!?! Way cute! And a great way to take up space and decorate the candy buffet table! My 100 takeout boxes came like this, very convenient! I LOVE the candy buffet sign frame with the peppermints, I will be doing this! I already bought the supplies I need to make two of these for my candy table! I like the candy matching with the container's swiss dot ribbon, very cute and it feels tied together. All-chocolate buffet, can't go wrong and it looks so classy! |

Candy buffet!
Popular fad or amazing, awesome, and fun favor idea?
Well, throughout my 8 year relationship with Mr. Lego, every time we go to the mall I make him take me to the candy store where I am willing to pay $10 for a fist-sized bag of candy. So, I don't care if it's "2007" or passé. I'm having one! Here's the decision-making process with this one... do I do a "theme" buffet or just stick with candy choices that I love? I could see the visual interest of doing all-purple and white or all chocolate or something like that... I can't decide> I'm thinking of doing a "rainbow" theme and having either each vase with a different candy of one color or every vase has rainbow-mix candy in it. Besides the candy, I've got the other things figured out. I bought my vases from TK Maxx, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Old Time Pottery. The nice thing about Hobby Lobby and Michaels is that they offer 40-50% coupons and specials pretty much every day! I didn't spend more than $10 on any one vase, even the big ones or my three-tier dessert platter. For the containers, I ordered 100 plain white 1/2 pint takeout boxes from Papaermart for less than $20 with shipping and everything! Highly recommended! http://www.papermart.com/templates/81-0-05.htm I ordered my personalized, glossy favor tags from an ebay seller, here store is called "All Weddings Related by Karen": http://stores.ebay.com/All-Weddings-Related-By-Karen She personalizes them just how you want, pic attached of how mine came out! I've also attached candy buffet idea pictures I think are way cool! Enjoy! |

Wedding Flowers
Flowers
Okay, I already know what flowers I want for my bouquet. I want a more wild-and-natural-looking bouquet of mixed all-ivory flowers and greenery. I'm having trouble deciding on the BM flowers. Like I've said in previous blogs, I'm going for soft. Here's my options:
1. Ivory and lavender-colored flowers: My first choice, could look out-of-date. I thought about throwing some darker purple flowers in there until my florist told me that dark flowers can look like "holes" in photographs. I really like bouquets that incorporate real lavender, but I have no idea how expensive that is. 2. Hot pink/light pink flowers: Like it, could really punch up the color of the BM dresses, or could be too loud. Hot pink doesn't really scream "soft", but could still look cool and youthful. 3. Yellow-and-cream flowers: Bright and soft at the same time, and with yellow being the opposite on the color wheel they will definitely pop against eggplant. However, my dress is an ivory color... might bring out the "yellow" tones of my dress. Always open to suggestions! |

Bridesmaids
Eggplant bridesmaids and gray groomsmen!
I have 4 bridesmaids + 1 jr. bridesmaid and 4 groomsmen + 1 jr. groomsman. I've decided that the girls can wear any Alfred Angelo, floor length, eggplant dress of their choosing. I am a bride who doesn't understand why we would expect our best friends and family to conform to one dress and at any price. I feel that each of my bridesmaids has her own unique shape, size, coloring, and budget. Since the dresses are floor length, I don't care what shoes they wear, because I also think that's a personal comfort decision. I know the two dresses shown are ones that a bridesmaid and jr. bridesmaid are choosing.
I found a great link to different groom/groomsmen styles in real weddings: http://blog.geoffwhite.com/category/uncategorized/ Love all of them! I especially love the shade and texture of the suit to the left, the gray one. I'm thinking charcoal gray suits with ivory vest/ties or silver/gray vests/ties. No bow ties! And no purple vests/ties! |

Inspiration Board
The colors: eggplant, gray, and ivory!
At first, I wanted a Tiffany blue, silver, and ivory wedding. The main problem with Tiffany blue is that it's trademarked by Tiffany and Co., so it's hard to find a close match to the REAL color, which is almost more green than aqua. I have found, especially with bridesmaid dresses, that most retailers version of Tiffany blue is too bright, too blue, and comes across almost cheap. Having been engaged for almost two years, I got pretty far in my planning with Tiffany blue, so for all those Tiffany blue brides... David's Bridal's Pool doesn't even come CLOSE and I would say Alfred Angelo's Seafoam is the very closest match I was able to find.
So, on to the final color choice: eggplant, gray, and ivory. After ditching my previous palette, I thought about brown... pale pink.... even berry. I kept in mind a few things: my dress is champagne/gold, I'm getting married on a April evening, my bridesmaids are all different shapes and colors, and it can't be BRIGHT. When you're getting married in that "Southern plantation" kind of setting, you don't want a "bright" palette. When I decided on purple, I had to pick between a lavender/lilac or something darker. The only reason I didn't go with lavender/lilac is because it makes me think of "old" weddings. I love the color, but to me, it doesn't feel youthful or up-to-date. Strange, I know, considering I want something soft and not bright. I decided to go darker (it's the evening right?). I have to say, dark purple comes in a "red-purple" and a "blue-purple" and it helps to see the color in person on a swatch or in some Knot bios. My favorite "eggplant" knot bio is this one: http://leah8888.googlepages.com/marriedbio. Her bridesmaids are wearing Alfred Angelo's "eggplant", just like mine. You can see how it's a bluer shade of purple. You can also see how it becomes a very modern palette when paired with white, black, and lime, which looks awesome. To make my eggplant softer, I'm going to pair it with ivory and gray instead of black and white. It just goes to show you how a color can transform to match different moods based on what you match it up with. To the right, some awesome inspiration boards! |
