Color Meltdown!

So, my first post on here is less of a "question," and more of a desperate plea - I need some inspiration for colors for my April wedding!

Now, I've always been a fall girl myself. I love the rich reds, browns, oranges and greens - so it obviously makes sense that I would plan the wedding for April instead of October...sigh. Anyway - I've never had a favorite color, exactly, and now I'm trying to put together this entire wedding without a clue of what I really want. When it comes to matching colors and styles, I can match a black shirt to my jeans, or a black shirt to my gray work pants. Beyond that I start to get a little iffy...

Let me start with my reception venue - it's in a hotel that is lit up by a large, circular chandelier and laid out with (brand spankin' new!) maroon and gold carpet. There are mirrors on part of the room (bear with me - it's a pretty dated venue) and I believe the walls are a tan color.

Originally, I wanted the colors to be maroon and gold it was a coincidence with the carpeting matching perfectly), but recently I've been getting a lot of negative feedback on the combo and have been told it would look "better" with more season appropriate colors. Even my fiance who is TOTALLY supportive of whatever I choose expressed that maroon might be too dark for the wedding. Go figure - his favorite colors are all pale blue's.
On the flip side, I think the fun spring colors would look totally wrong - bright yellows, greens, purples and blues- in the reception area.
That goes for the ceremony site too. It's mostly dark blue with a huge stainless glass window composed of blues, yellows, and reds.

So now, I'm sitting here at the computer staring at a boat load of paint swatches from lowes and starting to wonder if this might look a little clearer after a few glasses of wine! I picked
Pink and brown? Pastel green and light blue? Lilac and plum? Green and brown? Yellow and teal???!!! RED AND PINK!?!?!?!? SOMEONE HELP!

Anyone have a similar problem with their spring wedding?

I like the tiffany blue for a spring wedding... or navy blue and yellow. (just to put a few ideas out there)

Maybe people won't pay too much attention to the color of the carpet. If you choose vibrant, spring colors they shouldn't even notice that the carpet is maroon and gold. If it bothers you too much, is changing the venue an option?

GOOD LUCK and HAPPY PLANNING!

I would say if you could not change the venue then perhaps you could darken the room and have some great uplighting and it would take the attention off the room. Gold and maroon are pretty colors but I agree maybe something a little brighter for Spring. I really like pastel green and light blue. I think whatever color you consider...make sure you pick colors you and fh will love! Dont stress I think us brides really want everything to be so perfect that we stress over things other people would not notice! For instance, my ringbearer pillow just arrived and in one area the stitching looks a little off...can you say pissed!!! But in the back of my mind I know that only I will notice that and its not worth the trouble returning etc.

I agree big time with mrsmagraff2be, the up-lighting in the room will change the room dramatically , no one will be looking at the rug just the whole room in general...

Colors, hmmm. You should blog search. Check out different blogs(   Every Last Detail, Style Me Pretty, Little Black Book,Martha Stewart, The Knot, etc.)  Look for inspiration. Google Spring Weddings. Sometime finding a theme of some sort helps even more. I was all over the place when I was planning in the beginning. Colors and theme was the hardest for me. Never would I have imagine that the colors I picked I would ever do, until I laid eyes upon it. Kinda like finding the DRESS,lol.
Good Luck, I hope I helped :)

I would say go with the colors you want. I dont think you should have to pick colors just because they go better with the season, it will be inside after all, maybe if you were having an outdoors reception it would matter. And if other people dont like it then oh well, it isnt thier wedding its YOURS (except for FH, his opinion does matter). I can honestly say that when picking my colors the last thing on my mind was "how well do they go with the season?" I was more worried about how they would go with my theme, or if me and FH both agreed on them.

I had this issue, we originally settled on a Fall date in Oct, things were booked colors were set, Dark purple, gold, and a hint of red.  Well we had to push our date back and it happened to fall in the Spring.  Sooooo all my colors changed except for the purple.

You can get away with doing some darker colors in the spring, like a navy blue with a pink combo, A plum purple with a lilac or silver combo (that's the one I'm doing)
Luckily with Spring you can choose Gem colors like these and throw in a lighter shade to balance it out-

Good luck!!!
