Wedding Planner
Do you have one and what is it costing you???

Last week we were visiting with my future in-laws and my FMIL wanted to know if I was interested in a wedding planner. I told her that I had definitely thought about it but honestly didn't see it in the budget as we are way over already. She gave me the impression that she would willing to pay for it (although she didn't flat out say it). She wants me to meet with a planner that she knows. I heard from a friend that a planner's cost is generally 10% of your budget. Which right now would put us at about $2 Grand. I definitely don't want the FMIL to pay that much as she is already giving us our honeymoon. However, I do know that I would at least need someone the day of to handle centerpieces, making sure everything is in order, etc. I would like to know who has had planners or day of coordinators, and how did it work out for you?

I'm a wedding planner. I normally charge for DOC $500 and rates go by experance.

We hired a planner just for the day of.  I got a lot of quotes that ranged from $600-$2000.  I think that the 10% rule is more for someone who is involved with the whole planning process.  We settled on our planner for $800.

We don't have a planner but our venue provides a pseudo day of planner.

Thanks a lot ladies.  Yeah my venue's sales person does a lot of the preparation for the ceremony and reception, etc.  herself and I have even found review on the weddingbee as to how fantastic she is.  She also conducts the rehearsal.  I also have a hostess that's usually "on it"  about anything and I think that I can trust her to make sure everything is in tact.  That's an extra $500 bucks that we can certainly use toward something else.  I don't know, maybe I'm not thinking of everything right now.  What would I need a planner to do?

OH! Forgot to tell you. I used this site - www.eventective.com - and prospective planners who could work in my budget called me. i then got to pick and honestly, when you tell them you're picking between them, all of a sudden they're competing to give you the best deal!

I think if you can afford a day of coordinator (what we're doing) then that is the way to go if you're on a budget.  I'd rather not say what ours is costing us, but she's very reasonable.
