Ask a Question
What's the best wedding you've been to?
I'm curious to know... what has been the best wedding you've been to? What little details do you remember that you thought were neat, original, or made the wedding memorable? What wedding did you have the most fun at and why?

Lets see if we can use our experiences to make our own wedding a little more special!

Real Flowers on Fondant?
So our baker said she wasn't comfortable putting real flowers (orchids) on our cake because it can ruin the fondant because of the moisture.

Have you heard of this before? I tried googling it to get more information and can't find anything. Did anyone have real flowers on their fondant cake?

She said we could put the flowers on ourselves.... should we risk it? I really have my heart set on orchids on the fondant!

Aisle Runner- Did yours get dirty?
Just a question to anyone who has had their wedding and used a white aisle runner.... did you find it get dirty from people's footsteps?? I'm a little worried about it looking terrible if someone gets footprints on it. Or, did you have the guests enter their seats by the side aisles and not walk over the aisle runner before you came down the aisle?

Also, if you're reading this, please comment on my previous post if you have any info regarding the cost of making the aisle runner or how to secure it to the floor properly!

Aisle Runner- is it worth it?
I have been considering doing an aisle runner, but I'm not positive it will be worth the cost, time, and effort.

For those of you who have had an aisle runner at your wedding, have seen one at a wedding, or are doing one for your wedding, what are your opinions?!

How much did all of the supplies cost approximately?

And on the day of the ceremony, how do you secure it to the floor? Do you just lay it down, do you tape it down? How do you make sure it doesn't move? That's something I'm a little worried about.

Thanks!

I'm Learning:
Wheatgrass!
Hi all,

So I've had a terrible time trying to figure out where to get wheatgrass seed in Ontario. My florist suggested getting sheets of wheatgrass already grown through her for $50 but that is pricey and I wanted to grow it myself right in our centrepiece vases/containers. Others suggested getting sheets through Booster Juice or similar companies. But I was determined to find the seed.. I did a lot of searching on this site and all over the internet, and couldn't seem to find any other suggestions of where to get this stuff!

Well I finally called a natural food store in Ottawa - Rainbow Natural Foods and they explained to me that they are called WHEAT BERRIES! It seems you can get them from natural food stores and perhaps bulk food stores- for some reason I wouldn't have thought of this- I was thinking of it more like a plant than a food.

Doing a little more research I've found there are "red winter wheat berries" and soft berries which are lighter in colour. Many sites state that they can both be used to grow wheatgrass although the hard red berries are better. I didn't know this much when talking to Rainbow foods so I'll have to go see which type they carry and the price!

It is supposed to be very economical, and there are a variety of sites online to show how to grow it. It's supposed to be easy to grow, taking about 2 weeks. I'm so excited, I was worried I was going to have to give up on the wheatgrass centrepieces and place card display!

Memory
decided on ways to remember my dad
We also spent a lot of time thinking about how to best remember my dad who passed away 4 1/2 years ago.
We decided that we will have a memory tree, shown in the first picture- which will have a picture of my dad, and the grandparents my FH and I have lost.
Beside the tree, we will also have a memory candle for my dad. We will be printing a short poem on vellum paper to wrap around the candle, as pictured in the second. Nature and the outdoors was very important to him which is part of the reason why we are trying to incorporate it in our wedding day.

As well, we have named our tables after lakes in Algonquin park which was his favourite place in the world. The table names will be pictures of each lake.
I'm also going to attach a bouquet photo charm to my bouquet so he can be there with me as I walk down the aisle.

For my something old, I am going to sew in an old button from his shirt (one I have saved which he wore to my highschool graduation and we picked out together) into the inside of my gown. I got that idea from a website, and thought it was fabulous.

In the program we're writing a little something about remembering him. I don't want to completely break down on my wedding day so I've asked that the priest and my mother do not mention him in our ceremony or speeches.. I know most people do and it would be nice, but I know I would just start bawling and I want the day to be a happy one!

Many people suggested doing a donation as a favor to the Canadian Cancer Society or having the kissing game be that people make a donation for us to kiss, but I decided that on this day, I don't want to remember cancer or how he died. I want to remember him and his life, what was important to him. Cancer already got too much of him.

To remember Joe's grandmother whom he was very close to, we are incorporating a butterfly or two into our day.. we think we're going to put a fake one in our apple green colour (sold at Michaels in the spring) on our memory tree. His whole family thinks of her when they see a butterfly.. I forget the back story now, I believed she loved them, collected things with butterflys and then on her funeral day there was a butterfly that landed on someones shoulder. So it has significance.

Hope this helps someone out there!

Favors
We decided on this as well!
So we decided on our favors...
We're doing brown favor boxes with apple green ribbon, and filling them with tulip bulbs. Our wedding is at the end of August right when tulip bulbs become available and they should be planted in the fall.

We're also doing apple green coloured rock candy sticks, two of them. That way, the guest who receives the rock candy can opt to share a stick with their date.
We wanted to do both so that we can incorporate a fresh, natural theme as well as add a young, fun feeling to it.

We bought our favor boxes and green ribbon at Michael's. We are ordering the rock candy for .30 a stick from a candy store in the westboro area of Ottawa.

Wedding Flowers
Decided on our bouquets
So, after much consideration.. I have decided to have my bouquet all white roses. I just love the look of a bride carrying this type of bouquet and feel that it doesn't take away from the dress. The bridesmaids will be carrying bouquets of white roses and green orchids.. perhaps with something else in there but I'm not sure what. We are meeting with the florist on Sunday!

Then Joe will have his boutonniere be a white rose and the groomsmen will have a single orchid. I just love it!

Ask a Question
Have any of you bought one of these from Etsy?
So, I love this idea and am planning to purchase a handkerchief to give to both my mother and to my FMIL. I've seen them on Ebay and Etsy, and think there is a really good selection of them from various sellers on Etsy. Has anyone else purchased one of these? I want to make sure I get a good quality product from a reliable seller... any feedback would be helpful!

*Update*- I purchased a set of handkerchiefs.. one for my mother and one for my FMIL from the seller ccbgknikolich on Etsy and so I'm awaiting their arrival!! I was able to pick the colour and style of font and my own message for both. I hope they turn out great.. and I'll be sure to post pictures when they arrive!

Ask a Question
Are three centrepieces too much?
I've sort of fell in love with three different centrepieces. Well to be honest, I absolutely love two of the ideas, but one of them is much more expensive and I've found a third Idea that I like almost as much which is cheaper. If I do three of them, then I can still have my more expensive option but only have to purchase about 6 of them instead of 9 which saves us some money. Although I guess it doesn't save too much money... We have about 18 tables so I would be doing 6 of each kind.

Anyways, my question is.. do you think having three different centrepieces is too much? Too busy.. too much variety? Who else has three centrepieces. I guess I'm thinking that it may not look right, especially since we actually have two different favors, alternating one each place setting. Between the alternating favors and the alternating centerpieces, would it look strange??

So the one I really love is the hydrangeas.. although they would be green.. I would have river rock in the bottom. Then I love these wheatgrass ones but instead of daisies I would have a green orchid and the third cost effective centrepiece is the ikea vase ($2.50) pictured but with river rock in the bottom, a spidermum floating in water, and a floating candle on top. All three centrepieces would be surrounded by a little river rock on the tables and four votives. The last picture is just the vases and river rock without any of the other details- flowers, water, candles, as I haven't purchased that stuff yet.
