I have my session booked for November, here are some of my favourite boudoir type shots that I would like to recreate. I think I may need a shot or ten LOL before but I think I can do it!
Here is a recent post I read on the internet recently regarding tips from a photographer re boudoir photo session.
****Every time I have a boudoir session shoot for a girl wanting to do it for the special man in her life, the end result is always so much more rewarding. When they see the photos laid out in a professional book format, they soon realize that they not only did it for him, they become ecstatic that they did it for themselves!
For me, boudoir photography is about setting, light, and angles. While some girls look good at certain angles and in certain light, height, size, shape, skin tone, hair, and even what they are sitting/laying on can determine can determine each different outcome. Its almost never the same from one model to the next. I do NOT do full nude photography. At the most, the client will remove a top or bra, but be required to cover herself up somehow so the shot is still artistic in nature. Covering up in something sheer or even by the clients own hands is acceptable as long as its done in a tasteful and artistic manner.
I offer an on-location boudoir shoot either at a home studio or at a hotel which the bride reserves and pays for. If the bride prefers that the home studio is at her home, arrangements can usually be made to accommodate this request. The key to shooting boudoir photos is comfort. Choosing to have a boudoir session, it can make a woman feel anxious or very nervous in front of the camera and this will most certainly show in the photographs. The reason for the home studio as opposed to a normal studio is that in a home environment, women tend to be much more relaxed. Here are my suggestions for preparing for your boudoir shoot:
Wardrobe Try to have at least 8-10 changes. Sometimes, a nice dress shirt belonging to your fiancé/husband/boyfriend is nice and makes the photos very personal. Also, jerseys from a favorite team either he himself, or both of you share. If he is into any certain sports like hunting, golf, snowboarding, etc. possibly bringing some sort of prop to identify this sport will be good. Additionally, fun little outfits such as corsets, heels, lacy lingerie are always a favorite wardrobe choice when doing boudoir photographs.
Hair Wearing hair down is always best for this type of shoot. Because you will be moving around so much and laying on your back, holding your head up by your hand (which puts your hand in your hair), and even possibly getting your hair wet in a pool or bathtub
its always best to wear it down so you are not constantly fixing it during the shoot.
Makeup I encourage all of my models to go heavy on your foundation, powder, bronzer, and blush. Youll also need your powder throughout the day to reduce the shine that develops as we work. Additionally, I suggest that you go very heavy and dark on the lids of your eyes and either do light liner or no liner at all on the lower lid. Heavier than usual on the mascara is always good too. Lastly bring several different shades of lipstick; dark mattes, frosts, and glosses are the best.
Most importantly, when doing boudoir photography, you want to have fun and feel relaxed. The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will turn out! *****
They are a great way to help boost a woman's self-image.
Gave me and hubby a good laugh though. :-)
