I found this DIY on weddingbells.ca from another bride...
Step 1.
- Paint styrofoam ball the color that most of your flowers will be so that when all your flowers are in you won't see any white gaps
- let dry
Step 2.
- Cut ribbon to length desired and pin it in a loop to the ball and hot glue it for extra security
Step 3.
- poke flowers into ball, remove and fill hole with hot glue and then hold flower back into place for 10 seconds... repeat until you run out of space or flowers :)
That's it, you're done!
I'm looking forward to making one of these for my neice, I just have to figure out what flowers I'm gonna stick in there..
thanks so much!
congrats.
She used 50 (real) carnations for a ball about the size pictured in this post.
She instructed to put the flowers in a straight line around the pomander first to divide in half. Then in a line that intersects it to divide in quarters, then to fill in the 4 areas.
I made 2 large pomanders for my brother's wedding a couple months ago and I realized that it was annoying to just put the flowers in "by eye" because they end up more dense in some places. You also need a LOT more flowers then you'll think you need at first. Also... if you want to save time, I just used floral wire cutters to cut each stem for the silk flowers about an inch or two down from the bloom and put hot glue directly on the stem and stuck them in the foam immediately.
I know this was posted awhile ago, but I thought i might help other brides who come along looking. :)
