Black OMG!!!

OMG!!!
Exactly one year from today is our wedding day!!

One year to go and I can’t believe it…things are coming together and I could not be happier that I have all the big things checked off my to do list. It really feels good to have all of that out of the way and I can pretty much take the summer off from planning. I’ve been working on little things here and there. Mostly do-it-yourself projects that I have lined up for myself to complete or have already completed. I hope I’m not stacking my plate too high!

I can not believe that I will be a MRS.!!!!!!

bad luck
bad luck

Oh the luck of it all....
Well for the last few weeks here in New England all it has done is RAIN!!! It’s been getting me thinking about bad luck and that almost a year from now our wedding takes place and how it would just be my luck to have a repeat of this weather next year…I know rain is “good luck” on your wedding day but please, who really wants that to happen!! We all want beautiful pictures outside in the sun!! ahhh the dreams of a perfect wedding day….

But anyway…I thought that since the weather has been really bad that I would research wedding day luck/bad luck..

The first worrisome fact is that Saturday is not the best day of the week to choose. The saying goes like this:

Monday for health,

Tuesday for wealth,

Wednesday best of all,

Thursday for losses,

Friday for crosses, and

Saturday no luck at all!

The next tidbit relates to what month you are:

Married when the year is new and he'll be loving, kind and true.

When February birds do mate, you wed nor dread your fate.

If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you'll know.

Marry in April when you can, joy for maiden and for man.

Marry in the month of May and your surely rue the day.

Marry while June roses grow, over land and sea you'll go.

Those who in July do wed, must labor for their daily bread.

Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see.

Marry in September's shrine, you'll be living rich and fine.

If in October you do marry, love will come but riches will tarry.

If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come remember.

When December snows fall fast, marry and true love will last.

Then there is the issue of colors. Since the majority of the brides wear white or ivory, I will take this to include bridesmaid dresses. Maybe we can extend it to flowers also if we are pushing it:

Married in white, you have chosen right.

Married in grey, you'll go far away.

Married in black, you'll wish yourself back.

Married in red, you'll wish yourself dead. (NOT a fan of this one)

Married in green, ashamed to be seen.

Married in blue, you'll always be true.

Married in pearl, you'll live in a whirl.

Married in yellow, ashamed of your fellow.

Married in brown, you'll live out of town.

Married in pink, your spirit will sink.

Here are some random things that denote good or bad luck on your wedding day:

Bad Luck:

For the groom to see the bride before the wedding.

If the groom drops the wedding band during the ceremony.

To practice writing your new married name before the wedding.

To wear your complete outfit before the ceremony. Many brides often leave one stitch out of their dress to ward off this superstition.

Good Luck:

To see a black cat on your wedding day.

For it to rain.

Seeing a raibow.

Meeting a chimney sweep (not likely in this day in age).

To see a police man.

Superstitions - Things we can do to help:

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence in her shoe!

For good luck, the first gift the bride opens should be the first gift she uses.

The new bride must enter the home through the front door and must not trip or fall (why we get carried over the threshold).

It is said that looking in the mirror just before you leave your home for the ceremony is good luck. However, any peek in the mirror after that before the ceremony will bring bad luck.

And lastly, some random factoids to expand our mind for the day:

It is believed that at your shower the person who gave you the 3rd gift you opened will be the next to become pregnant.

If a girl sleeps with a piece of the wedding cake under her pillow she will dream of her future husband.

You always hear of ladies wanting to be a "June Bride". This actually dates back to the 1400's because May is when people took their annual bath. So then in June, everyone would smell fresh.

In Roman times, May was a bad month to get married because that is when the Feast of the Dead occurs.

Brides used to wear silver. It was Queen Victoria who defied this tradition and wore white. All of her subjects wanted to be in fashion and copied the Queen resulting in a new tradition of white wedding gowns.

The veil now represents purity. But in the days of old it was to trick the evil spirits from seeing the bride.

Having bridesmaids all dressed alike was to trick the evil spirits into not knowing which one was the bride. When this tradition was in it's prime, the bridesmaids would wear white along with the bride to trick those pesky spirits.

Again with the evil spirits - tying cans to the back of the newlywed's car came from tying items on the back of horse carriages to make noise to scare away the evil spirits.

Superstition says that the first person to buy an item after the marriage will be the dominant one in the relationship. And as a result of this, many brides arrange to purchase something from one of their bridesmaids immediately following the ceremony.

I love this last fact! Shows how smart the brides can be since the groom didn't come up with it!

Pearls
Pearls

Pearls.....
...did you know....
THAT THEY ARE BAD LUCK!?!?!?!

I have always thought that wearing pearls on your wedding day was elegant and classic....that is, until someone told me that they grew up being told that wearing pearls on your wedding day is bad luck!

I just really hope this isn't true as I have pearls all over my gown and all over everything else! I love pearls....

I did some research online and it's all over the place that pearls are bad luck on your wedding day!!

Has anyone else heard this? What are you wearing for jewelry?

I found this information online:

Bad Pearl, Bad Luck?

Several bad things can happen if you wear a defective pearl. They include:

If a pearl does not have luster, one's life will be shortened by wearing it.
If a pearl has a spot that looks like a fish's eye, one's children may be lost.
If a pearl is broken, one will lose his livelihood.
If a pearl is in the shape of a bird rather than round, the wearer will lose his or her wealth.
If a pearl is shaped like coral, one will become poor.
Wearing a spotted pearl can cause leprosy.
An oval pearl takes away intelligence and makes the wearer foolish.
A pearl with a protrusion on three corners is bad luck.
Wearers of flat pearls will get a bad name.
A natural pearl has much more astrological power than a cultured pearl, but since natural pearls are so difficult to find–and are so expensive–some people use cultured pearls as a remedy. One natural pearl can have more effect than a strand of cultured pearls, however. The only way to determine whether one is If you are using a pearl for astrological power, don't use a drilled one. A drilled pearl is of no use astrologically.

For astrological purposes, a pearl should weigh at least two grams, although four, six, nine, or eleven grams are acceptable weights. If you are using a cultured pearl, it should weigh at least three to five grams.

When to Wear Pearls

Pearls should always be set in silver. Wear your jewelry for the first time on a Monday, which is best or Thursday in the evening. They should definitely not be purchased on Saturdays. Pearls should be worshipped with incense and flowers, and the following mantra should be chanted 108 times: Om som somaya namaha om. Om som chandraya namaha can also be chanted.

A pearl ring should be worn on a Monday morning during the bright half of the lunar month – best during the full moon but during the waxing moon is acceptable. For best results, wear it during one of the constellations ruled by the Moon, such as Rohini, Hasta, Shravan, or Pushya. The ring should ideally be worn during Cancer, Pisces or Taurus, or while in a friendly sign.

Wear the pearl ring on the ring finger of either hand. The ritual to install the ring should be performed on a Monday evening after moonrise. People often feel a strong effect within a week of the installation.

As the Moon is not compatible with Rahu or Ketu, the Hindi ascending or descending of the moon, neither hessonite, associated with Rahu, or cat's eye, associated with Ketu, should be worn with pearl or its substitutes. The Navaratna setting is an exception to this rule. The Navaratna is nine specific gems that represent each of the planets, as well as Rahu and Ketu.

Some authorities say that pearls should also not be worn with diamonds, blue sapphires, or emeralds.

The cosmic color enhanced by pearl is orange, the cosmic number is two. Pearls affect water, taste, the tongue, blood and the second charka.

To test a pearl's quality, soak it in a solution of warm oil and salt. This will not damage a natural pearl. If a natural pearl is rubbed with a dry cotton cloth containing rice, a genuine pearl will maintain its luster and color. It is best to drill only oyster pearls through the center.

WHOOHOOOOOO!!!
We got our church!!!
I can not tell you how excited I am right now!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

My FH's father is a minister and he is doing our ceremony. I am Catholic and he is Protestant. I had asked my dad a while back if he minded that we didn’t do a traditional Catholic ceremony and he said he didn’t mind because he figured that my FH’s father would make it a really nice and personal ceremony and that was just fine with him.

So ANYWAY! My wedding coordinator from our venue called me a few weeks ago to check in so see if we had made up our mind as to whether we were going to have the ceremony on site or off site. I knew that I didn’t have much time to make up my mind with this and I had been bugging my FFL to see what he could do about getting us a church since that is what we both really wanted.

Well he just called me and WE GOT THE CHURCH!!! I’m so excited I think it’s such a pretty church!!!!

Options, options...
I've been starting to REALLY think about my girls dresses this week. I know that I have PLENTY of time and I’m glad that I do! When I had first pictured my girls I wanted them to wear black dresses with a pink sash. My mom, sister and I went to David’s a while back (first time trying on gowns) and had my sister try on a black dress with a pink sash. It was exactly what I had pictured in my mind for what I wanted my girls to look like on our wedding day. After looking at the pictures I was starting to think that I didn’t like how dramatic the pink sash looked across the black. I thought that it might be too much of a focal point and that’s all you looked at. So I just put that project aside for a little bit.

I then went up to MA to look at a bridal shop that had a few of my dresses that I wanted to try on. Our bridal consultant wanted to show us what a black dress would look like up against some of the dresses I was trying on and she brought up this beautiful Bill Levkoff dress that was black with a light silver sash. I LOVED IT! And so did my sister (MOH) and my mom!!! I thought that it was a softer transition on the body with the light silver rather then the bright pink.

So I think after all, that I want to have my girls wear black dresses still but with a light silver sash rather than pink. This way they can carry lots of different pink flowers in their bouquets and it won’t be so much going on.

The first couple pictures are of the Bill Levkoff dress, the long version, which is what we would get. The fourth picture is of the dress that our bridal consultant brought up to show us and it’s the short version with the light silver sash. This way, the groomsmen can wear a light silver vest to match. The last picture was my original inspiration, which I still love but I think I like where I’m going now better.

Any opinions???

Wedding Flowers
Bouquets!
This week seems to be my week to think about flowers! I’ve been spending a lot of time at work (haha) browsing around the internet looking at centerpiece ideas (found one that I know is it!) and bouquets. I know that I want to carry gerbera daisies and calla lilies, I posted a while ago which bouquets I wanted to use for me and my girls but I might be changing my mind. I’m not sure! I just love flowers so much I can’t help but think about all these other fun and pretty combinations. I have always loved roses, but I was trying not to use them since I feel like they are very traditional wedding flowers but they are really pretty. So I have found some bouquets that I love that have roses. And I even think I found one that I love that has everything I want all on one (picture #5)!!

I know I have plenty of time to think about this but I feel like if I think about it forever I will always change my mind!!

Was it hard for all you ladies to decide on your flowers choices???

Wedding Reception
So I've been thinking....
...a lot about centerpieces this week...

I knew that I wanted to have pink flowers for our centerpieces at our wedding reception. I also wanted to incorporate some other colors in there as well; greens and whites. So I’ve been looking at pictures online and I have come across some that I just LOVE. The arrangements are perfect and they have all the colors that I want.

The other thing that we are going to do is put limes in the bottoms of the vases. I have seen this before and never really thought about it but I think it’s perfect for summer and as my mom puts it “refreshing”.

I also wanted to do something special for my mom and have my late grandmother’s favorite flower in the centerpieces, that way she is there in memory at every point in the room. Her favorite flowers were spider mums (last picture).

Do you ladies think that the colors are too bright? Remember that we are having a black and white wedding. I don’t want people to think its neon looking…..

Opinions are welcome :0)

Wedding Dress
I'm going to be a.....
...MAGGIE BRIDE!!!

I ordered my dress on Monday I am soooo excited!!

I went up to the bridal shop out of state again that I have been going to a few times to look at dresses again because I really couldn't make up my mind and I felt like I had such a one tunnel vision of what I wanted my dress to look like I wasn't opening up to other options. I realized that after my first trip to David's I fell in love with a particular style and that's all I was looking at from then on. I don't know why I wasn't looking at what I have always wanted from the start!

Well I at least I figured out what my problem was and now I couldn't be happier!!

I ended up ordering the Maggie Sottero Elizabeth. It's the most perfect dress in the world and I can't wait to wear it again!!

My last post was about white vs an ivory color dress. I actually ended up getting my Maggie gown in diamond white. This is Maggie's mix between white and traditional ivory. I had always thought that I wanted a white dress but when I finally put on a true traditional white it blended right in with my fair skin! I actually thought that it would make me look tanner but not at all! SO! I ended up getting diamond white. You can’t even really tell in the pictures the dress pretty much looks white!!

I am so excited I can’t stop thinking about it and I haven’t been able to since the first time I put this dress on, I knew it was the one right then and there!!!

YAY!!

White v Ivory

Ask a Question
White vs Ivory
So now that I think I have found my new #1 dress and that it could be THE ONE I have to wonder what the right color is to get.

I have been told from many bridal consultants that if you have light skin and light colored hair you should get a white dress because it won't wash you out. If you have darker skin and darker hair you can get away with an ivory or diamond white dress beacuse it will look more white against you skin.

I'm very conflicted on this beacuse all the sample wedding gowns that I have been trying on have been ivory or diamond white so that's all I have been able to see against my pale skin and blonde hair. I just get scared that I fall in love with a dress and when I order it in white I will hate it because I remember what it looked like in the other color.

Has anyone ever had this happen? where you order your white dress and you hate it because it's not what you remember? or do you love it even more!
