ITS BEEN AWHILE
its been 8 months since the big day...
wow its been quite some time since ive been on here. oh how ive missed it! well im here to update you on married life, the craziness of the big day and to give you some tips and great vendors to use.
first....married life is great, but dont be fooled to think everything becomes a magical fairytale after you say "I DO". its still going to be something you have to work at from time to time. But I love being married and would do it all over again. Next, the BIG DAY is anything but calm, nothing seems to go the way you planned it to. and how is it that time seems to fly by on the one day when you want time to stand still? i remember waking up and getting together with my bridesmaids to get our hair and makeup done and before I knew it we were being hustled out the door to get to the church on time. (TIP #1: ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO LEAVE TIME TO GET PICS WITH ALL YOUR BRIDESMAIDS AS A GROUP AND INDIVIDUALLY) this is one thing i did not do and i regret it!!!! I remember waiting in the church for them to give me the cue that it was time to begin, and all i kept thinking was "dear god dont let me pass out." My dad told me to calm down that he had shots of vodka waiting in the car for afterwards...boy did that help.hahaha the doors opened and it was all so overwhelming (TIP #2: DO NOT TAKE AN ANXIETY PILL THE DAY OF YOUR WEDDING, IT WILL CAUSE YOU TO FORGET ALOT) I can not remember the exact pill I took but all i know is it caused me to not remember much of anything on my wedding day, which as you can guess is depressing. so dont do it. the one thing I do recall was noticing that my husband was wearing slip on Vans instead of dress shoes, i could have killed him! Everything went perfectly during the ceremony and the vows we wrote were beautiful, everyone said they couldnt help by cry. (TIP #3: write your own vows, it makes the moment so much more special for the two of you, make sure you make a copy so that you can read them back to eachother when you are having a bad day.) we left the church so happy and overwhelmed, we were so ready to start partying with everyone (TIP#4: ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME BETWEEN THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION TO TAKE LOTS OF PICS with FAMILY AND THE WEDDING PARTY) we lost out on so many pics due to being rushed. When we walked into the Shifting Sands I was amazed at how beautiful the room had turned out!!!! (TIP #5: USE SHIFTING SANDS at DamNEck Base!!! They have great prices and the staff made my wedding day a breeze...i didnt have to worry about a thing, they catered to my every need!) also if you use shifting sands make sure to look into chair covers it makes a world of difference. we used CLASSYCOVERS!!!! they were AMAZING. Our cake was beautiful...we used Incredible Edibles located at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. They took the picture I printed from a magazine and make the EXACT cake....AMAZING! I didnt get a chance to eat much of the food due to being pulled in a million different directions..but all my guest were very pleased with the food and the quanity. (TIP #6: EveRYONE SHOULD HAVE AN OPEN BAR!!! dont make guest pay for their drinks, and dont give them a limit, its a party, A ONCE IN A LIFETIME PARTY, ENJOY IT!) Lastly, we had a wonderful photographer. Andi Grant, check out her website at andigrantphotography.com. her photography has become ten times better than when she did my wedding, so that means shes VERY GOOD now! (TIP #7: IT IS VERY TRUE THAT PHOTOGRAPHY IS THE ONE THING THAT IS WORTH SPENDING ALOT ON,IF YOU FIND A GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER. Almost twice a month I still browse through my wedding albums and I have pictures of that day all over my house...so it was worth the payment.) I hope all of you upcoming brides get a least one piece of advice from all this. I hope you learn to breathe the day of, because by that time there is nothing you can control.Enjoy every moment. if you need to just stare at everything soaking in everything around you...because if you made the right choice in your groom...THIS IS YOUR ONE CHANCE TO HAVE A DAY LIKE THIS!!!! |

Ask a Question
How are you handling the last month?
I remember when I first joined this lovely community of chatty brides. I would read so many different blogs about ideas, and comments and countdowns. I used to think "wow I wonder what she must be feeling now that she has less than a month to go" and now here I am.
I didnt think I would be this nervous or stressed but I cant lie...I AM! I have dreams every night about the wedding...or my dress...or something going wrong. Everyday its a new phone call that has to be made or plans that have to be verified. I always have to keep up with the bridal party to see if we are all on the same page, all while making sure I am remembering to schedule(and make it) to my appointments. This last month as been very exhausting and Im only have way through it...lord knows what the last 22 days will be like. I am so nervous about everything turning out just how I imagined. I want everyone to be happy and walk away talking about how much fun they had. I want to have amazing pictures and unforgettable moments. As sad as I am that this amazing journey is coming to an end...it is slightly comforting that I get to have my life back...but honestly I dont know what else to do now besides plan a wedding! I thought about starting a small business called Budget Brides for local girls who want nice weddings on a low budget. I think it would be fun to carry over all the things Ive learned and love to other girls weddings.....thats if I make it through my wedding without a heartattack! hahaha. So for all you brides who are nearing the end of this looooonnnnggg process let me know where your heads are at? |

Flowergirl Dress
Ordered Ellie's dress
Jess(Ellies mom) and I sat down yesterday and found what we thought would be the perfect dress for Ellie to wear to the wedding. The dress is not too grown up but still has some parts that look similar to my dress.
I love everything about it and I believe it will look so cute on her. I cant wait to see her all dressed up! |

Wedding Hair Style
Trail Run #2
So I decided that this was the hairstyle I would be doing for my wedding day. I felt it complemented my face better. It was more what I was looking for...I could wear my veil in the center of my head (which I couldnt do with my firrst hairstyle) and when I transition from ceremony to reception I will take out the veil and place a white flower on the left side of my head...picture 1 shows the placement best.
What do you think? As for the bobbypins...the day of the wedding she will be using tan colored ones to blend in. |

Wedding Reception
Those darn seating charts!!!
Ok let me take a vote...
Who likes seating charts? Who hates them? Who liked them and then started filling them out, only to learn that they hated them? PICK ME PICK ME!!! Yes that is exactly what is happening with me. I decided that we would do seating charts so that no one is left wandering around looking for a place to sit only to fill in the space at a table where they know no one. As I was filling in my seating chart I realized what a pain in the ass it can be. You are trying to put people with other couples they know or may share a common interest with...only to be left with a handful of people that just dont fit with anyone! I swear if I dont have grey hairs at the end of this I will personal call God and thank him! Thats my vent sesh...thanks for listening! |

Wedding Rings And Jewelry
My wedding band(s)
YESSSSS....I finally purchased my wedding bands!!! They are beautiful and I cant wait to wear them. They are a 1/2 carat on each band and they contour around my engagement ring. They bring a new life to my ring and I am so excited to wear them.
When Ryan and I went to go pick them out and buy them...I had a grin from ear to ear and felt like a kid in a candystore. Im sure all you brides know that feeling! and I hope each of you is equally excited about the new editions to your fingers as well! |

Wedding Dress
Alterations
I went to have my first fitting for alterations and it went very smoothly. They only needed to make one stitch in the front to allow me to walk without tripping over myself.
I go back on Monday to see if it improved the dress and then the next time I where my beautiful gown is down the aisle... its starting to really sink in how close this wedding is and Im getting more nervous by the day! |

Wedding Reception
Astro DJ's
Ryan and I met with the owner of Astro DJ's two weeks ago and he was amazing. He made me feel so at ease...since I was stressing like a crazy person. He said he would call me ten days before the wedding to discuss our music playlist.
Which Ryan has been doing an amazing job choosing the songs to be played. We picked out a few for specific moments: Cake Cutting: Sugar Sugar Bouquet Toss: Single Ladies by Beyonce Garter Toss: Business Time by Flight of the Conchords(?maybe?) Bridal Entrance to Reception: Seven Deadly Sins by Flogging Molly (?maybe) and a few more..... |
