Wedding Gift Registry
What to do about the registry?

I am planning an engagement party and also a house warming party. I'm probably going to combine them, but what I need to know is: Do you usually do the wedding registry for the engagement party? Or the bridal shower? I don't want to be rude and expect gifts from people. I just don't know when you're supposed to do all this. One friend told me to do it for the engagement party so that my guests could use that list for the housewarming too? What do you think?

People usually don't bring gifts to an engagement party where I'm from (we got a lot of cards at ours)...gifts registries are usually reserved for the bridal shower or wedding shower and wedding. Don't ask for an engagement gift, but it would be nice if they got you one.

You could combine both parties, but ask for gifts for your new home (house warming).
