Wedding Hair Style
trial... mixed feelings... :(

i had my hair trial this evening and i'm left with mixed feelings... :( i was hoping that i'd walk away with the "WOW it's perfect!" feeling but i'm not quite there... :(

first of all...

hairspray, hairspray, hairspray... i know it's needed but seriously i used almost 1/2 a bottle of conditioner tonight so i could get a comb thorugh my hair :(

back combing... is that REALLY necessary? because i swear it doesn't do anything other than frizz my hair and make it unruly :(

other than the photo where he's getting started the others were actually taken when he started to undo my hair (we then realized we hadn't taken any more photos! OOPS!). before that point there had been a jeweled barette but in these photos it had already been taken out :)

what i didn't really like is the fact that it looks less sleek and glossy than i was hoping :( i don't want to have a fuzzy head on my wedding day...

my friend anne was with me and she told me she's sure that this was the "prova" to get an idea and that she's certain it will be perfect the day of. i don't know... i'm feeling a little discouraged to be quite honest :( if my hair isn't right i feel like it will throw everything off...

i was wanting a vintage-esque style (it needs to be up because my hair is long and i want the details on my dress to be seen).

help! i need feedback. i'm feeling a little depressed at the moment... :(

If you don't love it try another trial. There is no harm in trying other things to get the perfect look!

I think it looks great.
And I bet it looks even better with the clips in
If you're really concerned about it
then have another trial before the wedding and see if you still have the same feelings about it.
If its too expensive then see if one of your friends or someone close to you who was around (or not) can try and recreate it.

And Hairspray sucks but you're right for most styles its something that is needed and its a while lot better then a gel. Then you would have crunchy not fuzzy hair. Just keep playing with it and chin up.

So from one Amy to another --> Everything will work out to the best, because its your day and you will look beautiful =)

PS I still think that this is a beautiful hair style for longer hair <3

I am going through the same thing, so try not to be too depressed. I wasn't sold on my hair trial but I went out to my brother's wedding that same day (depressed that I wasted a hair trial and what am i going to do now) but I got so many compliments What I am going to do is go back a month before my wedding (because I am trying to grow it out a bit) maybe you could do the same thing and explain what you didn't like the last time (and make sure you bring the pictures)
but personally, I think your hair looks pretty great!

I think it looks just ok. If I were you I'd do another trial with someone else and also it would be good to bring a picture of the style you want and then you can compare it. I also want to do vintage but I know not everyone can do it really good..at least the way I like it. Goodluck.

Interesting...Being honest when I saw the picture, I thought of Vicotorian/Vintage look. The back looks exactly like a victorian tea party style doo. I didn't even read your blog yet, this is the first thought that came across my mind. Then after reading your blog...you're having iffy feelings about it. If you don't like it of feel comfortable, you'll have to try another. Are you wearing a veil that day? If not, definately do what you want. Another type of hairstyle. Y ou don't want to feel iffy on you special day.

I think it looks a bit stiff - that may be all the hairspray! But if you want your hair to be *just so* that's probably what'll have to happen. I'd say, for the price you're paying, you should ask for another trial - free of charge if they want your patronage - and tell them exactly what you want, and especially what you don't want.
Good luck!

P.S. I was justing at a previous post on your blog and noticed that you had a picture of Katheryn Heigle (sorry, probably didn't spell her name right) and the youtube video is the hairstyle they are recreating. ^_^

My beautician tried to fix my hair something like this but my hair was way to short but he did fix it another way that I do think you would like.  I think it's on my blogs.

You might want to consider getting a blow-dry style at the salon the day BEFORE your wedding.  This will help with the smoothness/sleek factor for your updo.  :)

(And of course, don't wash your hair the day of your wedding; your updo will stay in place MUCH better.)

first of all, you are gorgeous lady!!! I like the do, but I think it looks a little stiff too...if you don't love it try again. You don't want to be worrying about your hair, and look back at the photos and be like why did i have my hair like that! but don't be depressed,  at least you don't have to wait 7 months to get married lol

you're pretty.... your hair was okay. my honest opinion. it was too stiff and too overdone. And if you don't like it, it's definetely not THE do. When I had my trial hairstyle... I was in giggles and loving it! you should feel the same way about your hair. I'd try again. And i'm going to watch that video that was posted.

Okay you asked.  No I do not think that is good enough for a Brides hair.  It looks very old fashioned and rigid.  Why not try a really soft pretty updo with nice soft volume around your face.  The sides are just not finished and smoothed properer

I have lots of pictures of updos.  I think (3) separate posts with tons on inspiration pictures.

Try a site search = scheri updo

ladies thank you so much for your honest feedback.

i couldn't sleep at all last night because this whole hair situation was just gnawing at me... it's funny because the more time passes the more convinced i am that this IS NOT the hairstyle for me for the wedding.

here in italy it isn't in fashion to do these vintage-esque hairstyles so honestly i think this was maybe a little out of his realm... ?

i'm now rethinking the entire hair scheme... i might do something very polished and classic as opposed to vintage-esqe.

i just didn't feel like ME when i had my hair done yesterday.  and from the first day when we started planning the wedding i had always said that i wanted to look like myself on our wedding day (ok, maybe a tad better than the average day but you get my drift ;) ).

now the hardest part... to tell him that i didn't like it without offending him.  eek!  i'm NOT good at this... :(

You've got to be strong and not care about his feelings! If u end up unhappy with your hair, you'll be unhappy looking at your photos forever. If he ends up offended,  he'll remember the incident for a week. I think your feelings are more important in this situation.
And my two cents about the hair...I didn't think vintage when I saw it... I thought Amish from the Midwest. Sorry. I have to be honest. Follow your feelings and go for another try. Xo.

I have to agree with mikeandmel...on first impression it doesn't really look vintage. I might try going to another stylist and have them experiment with a few different up-do's so you can find something that you like and that feels like you.

I think the sides are very pretty...but there's something about the back of it.  I can't quite say what though.  What I do know is that if you love it...you love it.  If you don't...don't let others convince you that it's what's right for you.  You make that decision!  If you don't love it 100% find something else that you do love that way...maybe something that requires a little less hairspray lol!

I don't like it much.  I don't think it suits you.

... maybe that's not a fair assessement.  I think that I was distracted by all the little hairs that weren't in place.  As you say, it looks fuzzy.

Why don't you look on youtube (or other video sites), for instructions on doing your own updo?  I learned how to make a nice one with just a hair elastic and a handful of bobby pins when I was in grade school.  I used it all the time.  You can also buy products to make your hair look shiny.

I think the updo in the video is a much prettier, practical/less fuzzy way of doing the same updo you're going for! I would definately go for another trial run.. there's nothing worst than not having your hair done the way you want it.. I'm a cosmetologist, and trust me, its not gonna hurt his feelings if you're honest with him.. he wants you to love it too :)

Hey!  I know what you mean about the hair being frizzy.  I've had stylist do mine and they've done the same....well this was a long time ago but still.   I wouldn't be happy with it either.  Maybe you should try another guy.  I think its possible to make it smooth...and you know know if your not happy with your look it'll effect you the whole day...and the last thing you need to worry about is your hair.

I also think it's a great look but that's not important because you are not 100% happy, and it's your day! so don't miss a beat ... talk to your hairdresser about how you feel.

Give her pictures of what you want and do another trial ASAP. If she is unable to capture the look that you want, then you have to be honest and find a styalist that can :-)

Good luck!
