Ask a Question
Is it tacky to send "Save The Dates" via e-mail?

So were trying to cut the budget back a bit, and I'm thinking the Save the Dates may need to be rethought. Is it bad if we send out a nice e-mail? Something somewhat professional off the net. We are having a destination wedding so we want to give everyone a heads up, but tonight when I brought the budget home the FH just gave me a look. Which....usually means, he's not impressed. LOL The picture we can attach is the one shown here. We had professional photos done last year, so at least the Save The Date would look a little classy.

So, do you ladies think I should send out my Save the Dates via e-mail? Tacky or no?

I don't think thats tacky at all as long as they look nice :) Just a suggestion though I felt like save the dates were kind of a waste of money for us and it wasn't in the budget so I created a really informative wedding website and put it on facebook and emailed the address to ppl and it has all of our important dates and other info on it :) I will attach the link if u want to check it out? Its just a suggestion, but thats what I decided to do. I think if it saves u money though then the email version is not a terrible idea :)

It's not tacky at all.  In fact, we are doing half by mail and the other by email.  We are doing our reception as invite only, so we are mailing those individuals save-the-dates and invitations.  For everyone else, we will send by email.  We are using www.punchbowl.com.  But I am pretty sure there are other websites you can use as well.  Hope this helps!!

Not tacky. I would print up a few for older folks who don't use email, or just call in those cases. I found out that nobody really commits the date to memory until you send them an invitation anyway. Good thing I didn't spend too much on my STDs :)

We sent ours via email. In my opinion, save the dates are a waste of money and postage for something people will likely throw out. We are using our save the date money towards something else in the wedding.
I agree with penguinsinlove about calling people who don't use email.

I don't think it's tacky either. I'm printing 10-cent photos from Walgreens as my STDs. Just use photoshop or a free editing program online, add some cute text with the date, & done! You could even do this same idea by saving the photo & emailing the it instead of printing them out.

I don't think its tacky, and that a good way to save on money becuase you already have to spend alot of money on stamps for the invitations. I say send the std's email

I don't think it's tacky. We did an event on Facebook because it saved money and most people would check. It worked for us!

Nope, I don't think it's tacky. If 99% of your guests a tech savvy then it's a better, less expensive way to go! considering the rising cost of postage and other things this is a great idea!
