Wedding Cake
Unnecessary Stress! HELP!

Okay, so my man and I are planning on building our own cupcake stand that'll look much like the one in picture #1.

My question is, if we have an elaborate cupcake stand like this, would it be ok if our cupcakes were just plain? Like, chocolate cupcakes with white icing? OR chocolate cupcakes with white icing as well as chocolate cupcakes with light pink icing (our colors are black, ivory, and light pink)? I prefer the look of cupcakes with swirled icing like the pink and purple cupcakes pictured in #2.

We also have damask baking cups pictured in #3 (in black).

Here are my questions:

1. Would having a cupcake stand like the one pictured above make it "ok" to have plain cupcakes?

2. If yes, should we do just white icing cupcakes or white AND pink icing cupcakes so we can incorporate the color pink into the cake display?

3. If we have a damask cupcake stand, would damask cupcake liners be overkill?

4. If yes, do you have any suggestions on what type of print to use in our cupcake stand aside from damask? We're having a vintage themed wedding so anything with a vintage or antique look will work awesome!

and I kind of like the look of the edible pearls on the cupcakes. Would something like that be nice on pink icinged (my new word) cupcakes? And then pink pearls on the white icinged cupcakes? Or does it look tacky?

i think even if you didn't have an ornate cupcake stand that simple "plain" cupcakes would be great! it really doesn't matter. as long as they're not done sloppy. a lot is to be said for a beautifully simple cupcake. :) i think it would be great. if you decide to add in an edible pearl or whatever then do it!

the damask cupcake liners might be overkill though.

do white and pink cupcakes mixed together on one tier, or one tier of pink, one of white. or all white and the top pink.

you have the same colour palette as i do! :)

I also think the damask liners would be too much damask, but if you decided to go with them i would search how to make a damask cupcake wrapper to put around the cupcakes because once they are baked they won't look like that anymore!!

We had cupcakes too...here's my answers to your questions:

1&2. Plain cupcakes would be fine, check out how simple and elegant these look...you could add some pink ribbon or something to the stand if you wanted to bring the color in:

3. Damask cupcake liners would be overkill with the damask stand. A simple black liner would be cool.

4. We used a white fabric with a subdued pattern on ours...check out my blog for pics. You could use anything, even just ribbon. These towers look kind of vintage, and its already cut out. http://www.thecupcaketower.com/large-cupcake-tower/

First of all: I like the change of having cupcakes at a wedding instead of a cake :) Its just something different for the guests. Im thinking about doing cupcakes as well.


To answer your questions:

1. I think having a cupcake stand that looks THAT gorgeous, it would be okay to have plain cupcakes.

2. I would do white & pink icing to incorporate your colors

3. Yeah, i wouldn't do damask stand & damask wrappers. I think that would be to much..

4. I guess it depends on the budget.. I've seen some cupcake holders that were kinda vintage-y.. they looked like white lace kinda.. But i think just white holders or black or light pink? I don't think they have to be too fancy..

I do like the idea of the edible pearls. They make the cupcake look great :)
